The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology is seeking a self- motivated, organized, and personable administrative professional to act as the Chemistry Office Coordinator. This role serves the administrative needs of all students, faculty, and staff for the department. The position needs vary on a daily basis, but the primary roles are listed below.

  1. Oversees daily operation of the Admin Offices of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, including printer management.
  2. Coordinates and/or facilitates
    seminars, meetings, special projects and events, faculty/staff searches, and
    evaluates the success of these events.
  3. Performs or
    delegates clerical and administrative support tasks, including creating
    and editing correspondence, academic course scheduling and/or catalog
    edits, web pages, purchasing documents, reports, program handbooks, and
    other related publications.
  4. Monitors,
    reconciles, and assists with fiscal administration for the unit,
    including but not limited to purchasing, budgets, payroll and
    timesheets, undergraduate employment, travel and/or reimbursements; may
    assist with fiscal
    planning, including participating in seeking alternate sources of
    funding.
  5. Serves as a principal liaison between students and/or
    faculty, staff, other departments, and/or external constituencies on
    day-to-day programmatic, operational, and administrative issues.
    Resolves administrative problems, as appropriate, and/or refers problems
    to key faculty or staff for resolution.
  6. Collects and analyzes data; prepares
    scheduled and special reports and statistical information as requested
  7. May coordinate the
    activities of support staff, consultants, faculty, and/or volunteers
    engaged in implementation and administration of unit objectives.
  8. May supervise and train lower level staff, student employees, volunteers, and/or interns, as appropriate.
  9. May serve as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's Degree in any field
  2. 1 year experience with UNM specific practices including purchasing, timekeeping, and hiring
  3. Excellent written communication
  4. 3 months experience with creation of marketing materials such as posters or event programs
  5. Successful event planning and logistics
