About Technical Operations

BioMarin's Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. These engineers, technicians, scientists and support staff build and maintain BioMarin's cutting-edge manufacturing processes and sites, provide quality assurance and quality control to ensure we meet regulatory standards, and procure the needed goods and services to support manufacturing and coordinating the worldwide movement of our drugs to patients.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Manager, 3PL Distribution and Inventory Management is a key role as part of the Regional Logistics. This position will have responsibilities across the clinical, commercial, and development science areas related to external warehousing (3PL / 4PL) and inventory management. The Manager, 3PL Distribution and Inventory Management is responsible for overseeing and managing external warehouse operations and ensuring inventory is appropriately controlled and managed at facilities under their remit. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of external partnership associated with distribution activities.
Note that individual responsibilities may include all or part of responsibilities defined below depending on individual experience and abilities and may change to best support on going business needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Supply Chain Activities:

  • Oversee, consult, and engage on supply chain activities within 3PLs and distribution centers (DCs).
  • Implement best practices and fit-for-purpose work instructions (WIs), risk assessments (RAs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Contract and Cost Management:
  • Manage contracts and costs associated with 3PL and 4PL providers.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions to ensure optimal cost management.

New Product Launches:

  • Coordinate and manage new product launches within 3PLs and DCs.
  • Ensure timely and efficient execution of launch plans.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives reflecting evolving business development and general projects.
  • Implement strategies to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensure smooth integration and operational readiness.
  • Relationship Building:
    • Build and develop relationships with key distribution centers and impacted internal teams.
    • Facilitate communication and collaboration to achieve business objectives.
  • Expired/Obsolete Items Management:
    • Document and process expired/obsolete items at applicable distribution center partners.
    • Obtain necessary approvals from BioMarin.
  • Cold Chain Logistics:
    • Liaise with cold chain logistics on new shipping solutions and procurement for BioMarin activities at 3PL partners.
    • Ensure compliance with cold chain and GDP requirements.
  • Quality Management System (QMS):
    • Complete QMS records for deviations and change controls related to activities at distribution partners.
    • Ensure adherence to quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lot Release Approvals:
    • Complete lot release approvals for all lots received into BMRN managed distribution centers.
  • Global Distribution/Logistics Support:
    • Provide global logistics support to GEO and internal site colleagues on material transfers to and from 3PL partners.
    • Support supply chain planning colleagues on material movements.
  • Routine Business Meetings:
    • Schedule and maintain routine business MBR/QBR meetings with each 3PL/DC.
    • Coordinate the effective use of metrics and business targets to support internal requirements.
  • Inventory Analysis:
    • Analyze and be responsible for inventory and appropriate inventory levels at 3PLs against company forecasts.
    • Ensure future capacity for BioMarin products.
  • Technology: Experience with WMS, EDI/API Integrations
  • Project Management:
    • Lead or support projects at 3PL/DC such as process optimization, new product introduction, or new technology introduction.

SCOPE

This role is responsible for supporting the efficient movement and storage of lifesaving therapies in compliance with applicable regulations. Decisions made in this role are of critical nature in mitigating risks for the business while ensuring BioMarin's commercial products are delivered to patients in a timely and compliant manner.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • In lieu of above, other undergraduate degree plus continuing education in the logistics or extended supply chain management field required
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification preferred, yellow belt certification highly desired.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in supply chain management, logistics, or warehousing.
  • Strong cross functional leadership skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proficiency in logistics software and systems, and a solid understanding of logistics and supply chain principles.
  • Proven experience with 3PL/4PL management and cold chain logistics or similar external partner management.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical thinker, problem-solver, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Cold Chain experience highly desirable
  • Proven ability to lead change initiatives and drive improvements within and across functions which enable compliance and mitigate risk
  • Ability to effectively work autonomously and independently
  • Experience in SAP or like Warehouse Management Systems
The salary range for this position is: $111,000 to $166,600. BioMarin considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
