JOB TITLE:

Laboratory Assistant, Senior - Organic Geochemistry

JOB PURPOSE:

Perform technical laboratory and/or research tasks; conduct laboratory preparation and experiments under limited supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Set up and organize laboratory and supply areas; some positions prepare culture media and reagents used in laboratory experiments or lecture demonstrations and assist with maintaining supplies and equipment.
  • Order or use the bidding process for supplies/equipment, and make recommendations for high-cost equipment purchases.
  • May be responsible for and supervise others in laboratory preparation, proper storage and disposal of chemicals or biohazards, or for the care and feeding of research animals including diagnosing and treating for minor symptoms of disease and inspecting for health and reproductive condition.
  • Secure, test, record and process data and materials relating to tests and experiments.
  • May assist employees in research projects and experiments, test and teach new methods and techniques, analyze data, develop reports or other documentation and assist with literature research.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States. Sponsorship for H-1B work authorization or work visa is not available for this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associate's degree in a related field

Experience: 1-year work-related experience

Required licensure, certification, registration or other requirements: None

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BA or BS degree in Geology, Chemistry, Geography, Anthropology, or a related field
  • Experience conducting independent geochemical research and lipid extraction
  • Experience working with GC/MS and other sensitive laboratory equipment
  • Familiarity with software related to GC/MS and compound identification
  • Knowledgeable about troubleshooting sensitive lab equipment
