Job Summary

LCPL is excited to be recruiting for a full-time Library Assistant position in the Makerspace at Gum Spring Library. Makerspaces are collaborative learning spaces that provide opportunity for our patrons to explore emerging technologies, learn crafting techniques, and practice creative problem solving. Some of the most popular pieces of equipment in our Makerspace are our 3D printers, laser cutter, digitization equipment, sewing machines, and vinyl design machines. Library staff receives training on our equipment so they can then assist our customers with completing their special projects.

The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, service-minded, community-oriented, and a collaborative life-long learner who embraces the library's primary role of promoting the joy of reading and learning in the society. As members of an enthusiastic team, Library Assistants provide direct customer service in reference, reader's advisory and circulation functions, as well as assist customers in the use of library resources and the use of technologies. Library Assistants plan and lead programs for children, teen and adult audiences.

Successful candidates will be passionate, creative team players with excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills. All staff work in a collaborative environment to complete daily tasks, conduct programs and coordinate outreach. LCPL provides services seven (7) days a week. Location is subject to change based on the needs of the organization.

Work schedules vary and include weekends, evenings and holidays. Location is subject to change based on the Library system's operational needs.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.


Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma and two (2) years prior experience providing direct customer service to the public. Experience with Microsoft Office products preferred. Spanish/English bilingual skills preferred. Previous experience in a makerspace environment preferred.


Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Successful candidates will undergo background checks as required. Requires ability to push or pull wheeled carts weighing 200 pounds. Constant bending, stooping, reaching, walking and standing required. Ability to lift 40 pounds required. Spanish/English bilingual skills preferred. Passport Acceptance Agent certification and Notary Public License may be required within one year of hire date.
