As the Senior Manager of Container Infrastructure Engineering, you will lead and manage a team of container infrastructure engineers. Your team will adopt, integrate, and engineer industry-leading technologies and management solutions for our on-premises container platform and public clouds, with a strong focus on Kubernetes, microservices architecture, and cloud based container platforms, such as EKS and GKE. You will be responsible for the solutions we provide to our customers, ensuring the availability, performance, security, and reliability of the applications running on the infrastructure we engineer, implement, and support. Additionally, you will define, advocate, and deliver standard container focused foundational services for Visa's public cloud implementation. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders to design and implement solutions with a strong security posture, deliver functionalities with optimized cost, and improve developer productivity on a global scale. Continuous, iterative improvements in our processes, technology, tools, and automation will be essential to achieving these goals.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate is technology-savvy, with a deep understanding of container infrastructure and a proven track record of managing engineering teams. You should have a strong knowledge of Linux operating systems, container technologies, Kubernetes, and microservices architecture. Additionally, you should have good experience in designing and implementing infrastructure solutions on one of the major public clouds (AWS, GCP, Azure) and be proficient in programming/scripting languages (Golang, Python, Ansible, Terraform). Familiarity with CI/CD processes and experience working on open-source projects are also beneficial.

  • Essential Functions
    • Influence the technology roadmap for infrastructure management, be the gatekeeper for the definition of implementable strategies for cloud infrastructure, drive the implementation of these strategies and delivery the projects on target, on budget and on time
    • Drive the technology transformation, establish and maintain standards and integration. Identify, implement and advocate open standards and APIs to reduce complexity and support operational goals for increasing automation across the enterprise
    • Design and implement agile innovative infrastructure solutions/infrastructure management solutions that take advantage of technology advances that allow cost reduction, standardization and commoditization
    • Design, implement and integrate management solutions to effective manage private cloud implementation(Docker, Kubernetes) at Visa's data centers across the globe, ensure reliability, elasticity and security
    • Collaborate with the team to evolve the containerization ecosystem, establish and mature standards and integration for infrastructure management domains - logging, monitoring, configuration management, security compliance and orchestration. Identify and implement standard toolsets to reduce complexity and support operational goals for increasing automation across the enterprise
    • Champion the adoption of open infrastructure management solutions that are fit for purpose yet forward the Visa goals to keep technology relevant
    • Define and document best practices and strategies regarding application deployment and infrastructure maintenance by identifying and implementing the most optimal cloud-based solutions, be the focus point for hybrid cloud infrastructure related inquiries and engagements to the team
    • Have the oversight of JIRA board and lead the infrastructure engineering agile team meetings
    • Define and advocate a set of standard foundational services for public/hybrid cloud implementations, develop, implement and automate a set of policies for the use of cloud services, managing requests for new technologies & driving for standardization, establishing a secure cloud environment, and ensuring appropriate availability of services.
    • Work with the team to establish our hybrid cloud engineering practices - peer code reviews & pull requests, release cadences, standardize the deployment pipeline and toolsets
    • Coordinate closely with M&A team to ensure the adoption of our standards by each acquired entries while offering the flexibility of levels of customization and enablement
    • Provide guidance, thought leadership, and mentorship to development teams to build cloud competencies
    • Work closely with geographically distributed teams on technical challenges and process improvements
    • Evangelize the cloud and container management platform standards and capabilities, gain insights of the workflows of Product Development, Engineering and Operations teams, ensure platform relevance and drive adoption, enable the application transformation from monolithic to microservices

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

8+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree, OR 11+ years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications

9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD

*Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Electrical or other relevant STEM field

*8-year experience of systems engineering, designing and integrating infrastructure solutions, automating infrastructure deployment & life-cycle management

3+ years of experience of managing an engineering team focused on architecting, engineering and implementing infrastructure solutions on-prem and/or in the cloud

Strong leadership for infrastructure engineering team, effectiveness in building and growing the team, coaching, motivating team member

Experience managing production container ecosystems - Docker, Kubernetes, Service Mesh (Istio or Linkerd), CNI(Calico, Cilium) and CSI drivers

Proven record of defining technology roadmap, executing defined technology strategies and driving adoption across a large enterprise

Experience architecting, designing, developing, and implementing contained focused solutions on one of the public clouds (AWS, GCP, or Azure)

Extensive experience automating system tasks and infrastructure using a scripting language (Golang, and Python), with configuration management tools (Ansible), service registry and discovery tools (Consul and Vault, etcd), infrastructure orchestration tools (Ansible, and Terraform), and automated imaging tools (Packer)

Experience designing, building, and/or running production systems, practicing infrastructure as code, continuous integration and automated deployment, automated testing, autoscaling, and self-healing.

Experience leading, enabling modernization efforts for applications adopting modern approaches (e.g., REST APIs, micro-services, etc.)

Experience using and optimizing monitoring and observability systems (Prometheus, Grafana), log aggregation systems (Splunk, Fluentd, Opensearch), familiar with emerging OpenTelemeter standards

Good understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle including Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipeline architecture (Jenkins, GitLab, Drone) including deployments into Kubernetes environments using tools such as ArgoCD or Flux through GitOps practices

Experience with network and application protocols (e.g. TCP, HTTP) and databases, including one RDBMS and one columnar or NoSQL store

Able to understand the security tools and best practices: CIS Benchmarking, OS hardening, vulnerability scanning, system auditing

Networking experience both within Linux and with Cisco or Juniper network routers and switches

Strong analytical skills, able to work independently to troubleshoot, solve complex engineering problems. Make independent judgments/decisions within established guidelines

Experience performing full stack load testing to identify and address hardware, network, system, or application bottlenecks

Self-starter possessing excellent time management skills, able to manage multiple activities simultaneously while requiring little or no oversight and/or direction.

Proven ability to lead with passion and execute vision with little guidance

Communicate well with others both verbally and in writing and be able to effectively interact with peers, management and other outside contacts

High degree of initiative and sense of urgency, comfortable with ambiguity as needs change on a regular basis

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel5-10% of the time.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 152,200.00 to 220,850.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
