Position Summary

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative and experienced Operations Manager to coordinate the administrative and operational functions of our complex, multi-division department. Our department supports robust clinical, research, education, and community engagement missions, and we are committed to excellence in behavioral health across New Mexico and beyond.

The Operations Manager will oversee administrative and operational support services across the activities and programs of the various areas and division of the department. This leadership role includes strategic planning, faculty and staff human resources oversight, systems coordination, supervision, and organizational development. The ideal candidate will be a strong collaborator who can navigate university systems, work effectively with faculty and staff, and drive innovation and growth in a mission-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities include:

* Develop and implement organizational structures and systems across divisions and units to ensure alignment with departmental goals.
* Oversee faculty and staff human resource functions, including recruitment, development, and performance management.
* Monitor and support operating unit compliance with UNM policies and procedures.
* Lead the planning and management of information systems and data integrity.
* Serve as a liaison to School of Medicine support offices and related departments.
* Negotiate contracts and manage vendor relationships for clinical and administrative services.

Conditions of Employment
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience managing at least one of the following functional areas: fiscal services, administration and/or human resources AND 3 years of additional experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills demonstrated in a diverse academic and clinical environment.
* Expertise in human resources, strategic planning, and process improvement.
* Proficiency in financial management, budgeting, and cost control.
* Experience negotiating and managing contracts and operational policies in a large institutional setting.
* Knowledge of faculty and/or staff hiring procedures within an academic institution.
* Ability to foster a cooperative and inclusive work culture.
