Position Summary

Coordinates, oversees, and/or performs a wide variety of administrative, secretarial, and program support activities on behalf of an Associate Vice President, Associate Provost, Deputy Provost, and/or comparable senior officer of the University. Serves as primary point of operational and administrative contact for internal and external constituencies, often on complex and confidential issues. Coordinates the provision of office and staff support services to the office, and oversees and/or participates in the coordination, supervision, and completion of special projects and/or events. May serve on a variety of committees in a support capacity.

Training and Development

  • Assess training needs
  • Maintains training files for all police officers and telecommunicators.
  • Ensure compliance with the New Mexico state requirements for law enforcement officer and telecommunicator certification.
  • Maintains comprehensive training records for all staff, ensures completion of annual training requirements mandated by the University of New Mexico.
  • Use of the New Mexico of Department of Public Safety ACADIS system for data tracking and reporting of police officer and telecommunicator training.
  • Develops and submits applications to secure funding from the State of New Mexico for law enforcement retention and staffing initiatives.

Recruitment and Staff

  • Oversees job postings, interview scheduling, hiring and the onboarding process.
  • Provide support to department managers during periods of staff vacancies.
  • Coordinates background investigations and ensures completions of all pre-employment requirements for new hires.
  • Prepares hiring packets, drafts correspondence, and compiles reports and other necessary documents.

  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
