The Exercise Physiologist is a vital member of the multidisciplinary cardiac rehabilitation team. The Exercise Physiologist assesses patients; develops, implements and monitors exercise sessions as well as provide patient/family education as it relates to exercise, home exercise program, self monitoring, risk factors/modifications and behavioral interventions.
*Performs vocational/activity/musculoskeletal and cardiac assessment with all patients. *Explains goals of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program to patients and families *Assists patients in risk factor identification and developing personal goals. *In collaboration with the RN and Medical Director formulates an appropriate individual exercise program for each patient within the limits of the exercise prescription. *Implements, supervises, and leads therapeutic exercise session. Monitors patient's physiologic signs during exercise *Records vital signs throughout sessions. Recognizes distress signals and takes appropriate action *Develops, implements, and evaluates the exercise component of patient care plans in consultation with the RN and Medical Director. Revises plan as appropriate. *Develops individual home exercise program based upon risk factor stratification and ensures follow up to assess compliance, safety, and to answer questions. *Assumes responsibility delegated by the RN for patient and family education related to: Therapeutic exercise, Self-monitoring, Behavioral interventions *Provides for patient's psychosocial needs through discussion, support groups and appropriate referrals in collaboration with the RN. *Maintains medical records. Provides appropriate documentation in a timely manner. Maintains statistical data of activities. *Reviews current literature and research to update and revise exercise component and related educational sessions and patient materials *Participates in the Performance Improvement Plan as it relates to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. *Supports the philosophy, goals, and standards of the division and the North Shore Medical Center *Maintains the dignity and confidentiality of all patients while promoting autonomy and individuality. *Engages in activities that promote mutual cooperation and supportive collegial relationships. *Responsible for maintaining competency in exercise physiology practice and skills. *Participates in hospital committees. *Participates in community health projects *Follows hospital policy and procedures regarding patient and staff safety; maintains a safe environment. *Incorporates infection control standards in all activities. *Adheres to standards established for attendance and is punctual *Adheres to departmental dress code standard *Wears employee name badge/picture identification. *Adheres to Human Resources policies of NSMC Education Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree?
