Position Overview:

Responsible for processing background check requests for potential sponsors of unaccompanied children. They receive background check requests (both fingerprint and child abuse and neglect), work with respective federal or state agencies to compile existing information. Coordination of the delivery of that information to the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) or ACF designee. They do not participate in adjudication or evaluation of the information they receive, and do not make security recommendations based on this information. All Case Management Specialists are responsible for timely email request responses and coordination, as well as evaluating various database searches for potential sponsor information. This Ready Reserve position involves a comprehensive hiring process, including interviews with both PSI and the specific Program Manager or Team Lead, along with a background check and drug screen for Protection Strategies, Inc. Successful candidates will be placed on a Ready Reserve List and considered for placement as vacancies arise.

There are two primary areas that will they work in:

  • Sponsor Checks
  • Child Abuse and Neglect Checks

Sponsor Checks focus primarily on matching received request paperwork with Special Agency Check (SAC) results received from OPM (Office of Personnel Management), and then opening, processing, and closing cases in an Office of Security and Strategic Information (OSSI) electronic database. There is considerable follow up with OPM, ACF personnel, and ACF designees. Child Abuse and Neglect Checks (CA/N) focus primarily on receiving requests and coordinating with state child protective services to receive CA/N records for potential sponsors. There is considerable follow up with OPM, ACF personnel, and ACF designees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate Sponsor Checks and/or Child Abuse and Neglect Checks on potential sponsors of Unaccompanied Children via already existent OSSI-established procedures
  • Interface with the respective Federal and State-level Criminal History and/or Child Protective Services agencies throughout the U.S., ACF personnel and designees, and other OSSI staff, as well as OSSI customers
  • Produce graphical and written reports on findings and statistics
  • Present OSSI/DCS procedures in a classroom setting, via conference call or web demonstration to DCS customers, ACF personnel or designees, and other federal partners.
  • This position will require less than 5% out of state travel a year to provide or participate in care provider site visits and state agency visits to provide training presentations or other assistance as needed.
  • Overcome obstacles and accomplish the mission of obtaining timely, accurate child abuse and neglect checks on sponsor applicants of Unaccompanied Children.
  • Customer-friendly service skills - especially in communication to overcoming obstacles.
  • Prepare technical reports summarizing investigative findings
  • Manage large amounts of information
  • Conduct necessary research on policies and procedures regarding state Child Protective
  • Services Checks - Child Abuse and Neglect Checks as appropriate
  • Receive and prepare written responses and/or processes requests for information
  • Preference for familiarity with Spanish and/or willing to learn.
  • Sensitive to other cultures and ethnic groups.
  • Motivated, self-starter, able to work independently with limited supervision, and overcome obstacles.
  • Processing Cases:
    1. Handling case submissions via email, fax, online database, and traditional mail.
  • Closing Cases:
    1. Playing a crucial role in the case closure process.
  • Document Management:
    1. Printing and organizing cases, ensuring proper filing and storage.
  • Correction Assistance:
    1. Assisting the SCM with any necessary corrections required for case submissions.
  • Letterhead Creation:
    1. Drafting and preparing letterheads for the respective State in accordance with established guidelines.
    2. Sponsor Field print Updates.

Qualifications:

  • Education at the High School level and/or equal work experience
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must be willing to travel 5%
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Access, Power Point, Word)
