JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, within the Department of Medicine, in Hershey, PA, is seeking a Research Technologist (Life Sciences). This position will be involved in sponsored research projects with standard and complex laboratory procedures. Responsibilities for this position include performing laboratory work such as preparation of media and solutions, maintenance of cell cultures, routine laboratory biochemical and cellular assays, laboratory maintenance, animal research experiments, and development and execution of specific research projects. Specific Job Description: 1. Work under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) on sponsored research projects performing standard and complex laboratory procedures. 2. Maintain accurate and timely record of test results; apply standard quality control procedures to assure accuracy of test results; operate, calibrate and perform routine maintenance on specialized equipment; maintain cell culture. 3. Order/ maintain supply inventory; and ensure adherence to the laboratory budget allocated by PI; 4. Organize/ design current/ new research project; ensure progress/ trouble shooting on specific projects. 5. Perform standard laboratory biochemical, molecular and cellular assays such as gel electrophoresis, western blotting, RT PCR, mouse genotyping etc. 6. Perform repetitive and technically meticulous small laboratory animal (mice/ rat) research work (training will be provided). Preference will be given to individuals with experience in laboratory animal handling. 7. Participates in meetings with the PI. Successful candidate will be expected to exhibit individual initiative, work independently; be technically proficient and accurate. 8. Effectively communicate the lab work progress (written and verbal) with the PI; initiate and ensure compliance with applicable safety procedures; and organize lab work with detailed attention. This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire, withpossibility of refunding.
