About the Job

Department: Duluth American Indian Studies

Hours: 20 hours per week from 05/27/2025 through 8/29/2025

The person filling this position will work with the MPCA's Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) project team, University of Minnesota Duluth faculty, and Tribal leaders and staff to:

  • Serve as a point of contact and coordination between Tribes and state agencies on CPRG activities
  • Facilitate information sharing and support between the state and Tribal Nations on CPRG activities
  • Identify and incorporate Tribal priorities and perspectives into state climate planning documents

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Virtually attend CPRG project team meetings to connect to staff, provide progress and information updates, and receive up-to-date information on grant activities (Approximately 10% of duties)
  • Develop written summaries of input and findings from coordination meetings, interviews, and focus groups and present those summaries to the state's CPRG project team and the Subcabinet Steering Team (Approximately 40% of duties)
  • Collaborate with Tribal leadership and staff, the CPRG project team, and goal chapter leads to incorporate Tribal priorities and perspectives into the state's updated Climate Action Framework (Approximately 40% of duties)
  • Other relevant activities as assigned (Approximately 10% of duties)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated record of building successful partnerships with Tribal nations and state agencies
  • Familiarity with the State of Minnesota Climate Action Framework and the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant program
  • Familiarity with Tribal, state, and federal climate policy and programming
  • Documented experience in Tribal government, Indigenous community, and/or Tribal relations
  • Availability to accept part-time temporary Minnesota-based remote employment
  • Ability to travel as needed through self-sufficient reimbursed transportation (Drivers license required. Use of a personal/private vehicle or ability to access the UMD fleet in Duluth will be necessary. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.)

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with Tribal, state, and federal climate policy and programming
  • Experience working with state agencies
  • Graduate coursework relevant to Tribal, state, and federal climate policy and programming
Pay and Benefits

Pay Rate: $28.20 per hour
