Job Purpose:
The Quality Professional is responsible for ensuring product quality. This position ensures the constancy implementation of the Quality Assurance Policies at a local level. The manager will oversee laboratory analyses to ensure that quality standards are met, intervene in case of anomalies, and promote the adoption of product quality control methods and equipment management to all personnel.

Key Accountabilities

Laboratory



  1. Supervise and conduct sampling, testing, and results analysis of QA procedures.
  2. Develop the laboratory Investment Plan and plan the reintegration of consumption material.
  3. Develop new tests and analysis, carry out non-standard tests, and recommend purchases of new equipment and devices.
  4. Supervise and support plant cleaning plan.
  5. Oversee laboratory activities and the employees engaged in inspections and testing activities to ensure high productivity and high technical integrity.



Method and Control Activities



  1. Adhere to product, process and control standards and ensure that food scraps, packaging material scraps, and hygiene and health procedures are known and followed accordingly.
  2. Ensure that all raw and packaging resources comply with regulations for the quality of supplies, following the methods and procedure approved by the Corporate Quality Assurance Unit.
  3. Ensure compliance to operational procedures regarding sampling activity, results analysis, and transmission.
  4. Communicate with the Plant Associate Director regarding any anomaly, and hold any raw or packaging material that does not meet quality standards.
  5. Support the purchasing unit in managing technical objections to suppliers.
  6. Coordinate and support systems implementation (e.g. HACCP--PRPs, technical tables) and quality improvement plans.
  7. Support production and packaging operators in checking output features in compliance with Barilla America procedures and current regulations.
  8. Support external suppliers for packaging.
  9. Work and communicate well with others and effectively contribute to the working relationships within Barilla America.
  10. Comply with the environmental policies and procedures at Barilla Ames facility including energy efficiency, reduce - re-use - recycle goals, reporting requirements and sustainable initiatives. Complete any environmental tasks as assigned AND report environmental concerns immediately.
  11. Assist Q & T Manager in areas of Annual Training for GMP and HACCP, annual external/third party audits (FSSC22000), and reporting of Consumer Complaints, and Accounting for payment of invoices.
  12. Support QA Lab in review and reporting of Non-Conformities of Raw Materials, Naked Product, and Packaging Materials.
  13. Manage and support Integrated Pest Management Program with contracted Pest Management Company.
  14. Manage and support Plant Cleaning and Sanitation with contracted cleaning company.
  15. Support and participate in the food safety team.



Key Accountabilities Continued

* Required to be a FSMA qualified individual, following all requirements from FSMA regulations

* Ensure compliance and understanding for quality procedures that directly tie to food safety-PRPs, OPRPs, CCPs and FSMA requirements.

* Backup Gluten Free Certification Organization, or other gluten free certifications, facility contact in the event the Quality & Technology Manager is not available

* Required to actively participate in mock traces, utilizing the traceability SOP, with the traceability and logistic teams. In the event of an actual trace event, actively support in all tracing activities

Additional Information

  • A minimum of a BS in Food Science, Quality Assurance or a related degree such as Food Manufacturing.
  • A minimum of 5 years of quality assurance experience in a food-manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Must have food safety management experience, preferably ISO22000 and PAS220 or ISO9001.
  • Required to be a FSMA qualified individual, following all requirements from FSMA regulations
  • Ensure compliance and understanding for quality procedures that directly tie to food safety-PRPs, OPRPs, CCPs and FSMA requirements.
