Land Restoration Equipment Operator

Purpose
The primary responsibility of this position is to operate heavy equipment in the construction of land restoration projects. This position provides support in implementation of creek restoration, wetland and vernal pool construction, meadow restoration and other land restoration projects. The position also helps with labor tasks such as the installation of plants, irrigation systems, herbivore protection, and other tasks as assigned.

Essential Functions
  1. Operate heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, skid steers, tractors, backhoes, masticators, etc.
  2. Perform routine maintenance and inspections on equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  3. Follow all safety regulations and protocols while operating machinery.
  4. Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and daily production and communicate with on-site Restoration Specialist or Superintendent.
  5. Basic understanding on how to read project grading plans.
  6. Use of hand levels, laser equipment and/or GPS systems.
  7. Work with labor crews when not operating equipment on such tasks as, installing erosion control materials, planting, broadcast seeding, installing herbivore cages and other tasks related to Land Restoration activities.

Experience & Industry Expertise
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience performing work on habitat restoration or landscape construction projects.

Specific Job Requirements
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background investigation.
  • Valid Driver's California License.
  • Ability to preserve confidential and proprietary information and successfully avoid conflicts of interest.
  • Knowledge of Standard Operating Policies and Procedures.
  • Ability to work authorized overtime as required.
  • Ability to work on projects requiring frequent overnight traveling.
  • Possess the strength and agility to perform labor work in an outdoor setting for long periods.
  • Ability to adapt to changes during the construction of restoration projects.

Equipment Used:
  • Automobile (truck), ATV/UTV, small tools, heavy construction equipment, and equipment trailers.
Physical Demands & Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Physical: Sitting for long periods of time. Driving equipment/trucks on uneven, bumpy construction roads. Frequent bending and squatting throughout the day. Carrying loads of 30-40 pounds for extended periods, with occasional lifting of heavy loads up to 90 pounds.
  • Work Environment: Job sites include uneven ground, steep slopes, and exposure to extreme temperature and/or humidity. Work in remote areas.

HOURLY BASE SALARY RANGE:
$28.85 - $40.38
The range displayed reflects the range the company reasonable expects to pay for the position. The actual base salary is subject to variation due to the role, level, geographic location, relevant education, training, or experience, among other factors.
