Assistant Plant Manager

Purpose
Develop management skills in decision making and personnel relations by integrating into the daily operations. Supervise various projects assigned by Plant Manager.

Focus & Scope
Essential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral part of the job, are indicated below:
  1. Actively supports the achievement of business unit goals and objectives by staying abreast of and evaluating trends in the industry. Also supports the business unit's activities to remain focused on short- and long-term range goals, customer feedback, and continuously strives to improve day-to-day processes and practices.
  2. Establishes, promotes, and protects Teichert's values including diversity, teamwork, fair work environment, and respect of others in order to maintain a "team" spirit within the business unit. Works and cooperates with other disciplines across company lines.
  3. Collaborates across business units and strives to build consistent business development practices and procedures, and customer service expectations. Ensures policies, procedures, and standards are adhered to as well as protect the company's interests.
  4. Promotes and protects the community perception of Teichert.
  5. Responsible for daily aggregate mining/processing and asphalt operations.
  6. Assists in the preparation of the annual operations unit cost budgets, repair budgets and reclamation expenditures.
  7. Reviews plant weekly unit costs, year to date costs, operating margin, Cost of Sales, product quality, overtime percentage, plant uptime percentage and plant benchmark trends. Assists in managing inventory and overhead expenses.
  8. Works with Engineering Department to develop plant improvement projects.
  9. Partners with Mining Engineer to prepare short and long range mining direction.
  10. Oversees project and operation scheduling for aggregate/asphalt site.
  11. Maintains all records for permits with state, local and county agencies.
  12. Knowledge of MSHA and OSHA regulations and implements compliance.
  13. Evaluate pit harvesting methods for efficiency and safety.
  14. Prepare and recommend mining with reclamation objectives; assists with short and long range planning.
  15. Evaluates quality testing, investigates issues at the plant and job site.
  16. Specify and Order materials for and supervises special projects.
  17. Operates drone and aerial surveys to calculate tonnage and prepare aerial inventory reports.
  18. Prepare weekly stripping cost analysis, where applicable.
  19. Knowledge of all permits applicable to the plant site.
  20. Address complaints from neighbors about noise and dust, rectify to their satisfaction and verify permit conditions are being met.
  21. Chair monthly Safety Advisory Committee meetings to review plant safety suggestions.
  22. Maintains a safe operating environment by enforcing company safety policies.
  23. Conducts weekly tailgate safety meetings for craft personnel.
  24. Conducts business in a professional, legal and environmentally sound manner in adherence to company policies.
  25. Enforce company SOP and union contracts.
  26. Conducts plant operations training to various personnel throughout the year.
  27. Show care and concern for employees well being.
  28. May perform various other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  29. Assists in achieving a zero-injury culture through supporting safety programs and actively participating in appropriate safety meetings and training sessions to maintain a safe, healthy work environment and meet corporate safety standards.

Role Qualifications & Requirements

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience
Experience and Industry Expertise:
  • 2+ years of experience in aggregate/asphalt operations.
  • Knowledge of aggregate plant operations and products preferred

Specific Job Requirements:
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background investigation.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Current on all company required safety training.
  • Ability to preserve confidential and proprietary information and successfully avoid conflicts-of-interests.
  • Strong Supervisory and Management skills with demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Must possess excellent written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with a diverse group of people
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong focus on both internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to collaboratively work with others in a positive and professional manner.
  • Occasional overnight travel.
