For those who want to invent the future of health care, here's your opportunity. We're going beyond basic care to health programs integrated across the entire continuum of care. Join us to start Caring. Connecting. Growing together. The Phlebotomist functions as an integral member of the team and is responsible for performing phlebotomy and other lab tests in a manner that maintains high quality patient care. Order Requisitions: The phlebotomist verifies all incoming lab orders to ensure they are accurate and complete. This involves reviewing patient information, test requests, and any special instructions to prevent errors. The phlebotomist prioritizes and schedules these orders, ensuring that tests are performed promptly, and results are delivered within the expected turnaround time. They also communicate with Primary Care Provider (PCP) offices to confirm orders and request faxes from outside facilities when needed, addressing discrepancies and clarifying details to maintain proper order flow. Blood Draw (Phlebotomy): The phlebotomist is responsible for drawing blood using venipuncture, finger pricks, or other techniques, always ensuring correct patient identification. They explain the procedure to patients, answer any questions, and provide comfort to ease any anxiety before performing the blood draw. All blood samples are accurately labeled, with patient details and time of the draw recorded for proper tracking Lab Processing: The phlebotomist handles the preparation, processing, and analysis of biological samples. This includes ensuring blood coagulation (30-minute wait), centrifuging blood samples (15-minute spin for serum, 6 samples at a time), and preparing serum in the correct vials for submission to Quest. Additionally, they manage the collection and transfer of urine and stool samples, ensuring proper storage and labeling, and monitor temperature requirements for certain samples (room, refrigerated, or frozen). They also ensure that all drop-off samples from outside sites are correctly stored, labeled, and ready for pickup by Quest. The phlebotomist plays a crucial role in maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, efficiency, and patient care throughout the entire process-from order requisition to sample processing and blood collection.
