ChampionX is seeking a Principal Chemist to support the Chemical Technologies segment in Sugar Land, Texas. This role will be a part of the Operational Innovation RD&E team which promotes product portfolio health and sustainability by leading continuous improvement efforts within the organization. Key areas of focus include reducing complexity of the global product portfolio, strengthening security of supply for key raw materials, and contributing to manufacturing process efficiencies that improve product profitability. As a member of a global team, the Principal Chemist will collaborate with RD&E application teams and functional counterparts in Marketing, Procurement, Manufacturing, and other support functions. The associate will also support a portfolio of continuous improvement projects for Sugar Land RD&E.

What You Will Do:

  • Act as a key technical contributor and project manager on operational efficiency projects of moderate scope and complexity with high impact on the business.
  • Manage qualification of raw materials through alternate supplier approval process, working with stakeholders in other functions to confirm performance, regulatory, and quality requirements.
  • Act with considerable latitude in determining technical approach required to meet desired objectives.
  • Demonstrate full use and application of chemistry, project management, and other principles, theories and concepts to assignments that range across multiple applications and product lines.
  • Demonstrates initiative and creativity in identifying process pain points and driving a continuous improvement culture.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree or Advanced degree in a chemistry or related discipline
  • BS and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience, MS and a minimum of 3 years relevant experience or PhD recent graduate

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior project management experience
  • Internal knowledge of ChampionX supply chain processes
