Job Purpose The Senior Applications Engineer serves as the primary technical interface with customers, owning the translation of customer needs into tailored KARNO Power Module solutions. This individual plays a key role in pre-sales technical engagement, solution design, project scoping, and technical proposal development-particularly for complex stationary and mobile power generation applications. The role requires good understanding of distributed energy systems, experience with balance of plant integration (thermal, electrical, controls), and strong communication skills to support the commercialization of the KARNO product platform in diverse markets such as EV charging, data centers, microgrids, and industrial power. Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead technical discovery with customer engineering teams to define application requirements and translate into system-level designs using KARNO Power Modules.
- Develop and deliver techno-commercial proposals including:
- Electrical load assessments
- Fuel compatibility evaluations
- Cooling and thermal system integration
- Power electronics configuration
- Compliance with emissions and permitting requirements
- Create detailed RFP/RFQ responses, including BOM estimates, preliminary layouts, and integration schematics.
- Serve as the technical voice of the customer within Hyliion, collaborating with product engineering to inform future product roadmap needs and custom configurations.
- Prepare and present detailed technical material to support customer discussions, industry forums, and strategic partner reviews.
- Guide project handoff from pre-sales to delivery, working closely with project engineers and field service teams.
- Work with Project Engineering team to provide on-site and virtual technical support during equipment integration and commissioning.
- Maintain strong awareness of industry standards (NFPA, IEEE, UL, NEMA, NEC), emissions regulations, and competitive landscape in distributed generation.
- Support the development of standard application templates, pricing models, and internal training materials.

- Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering required.
- Master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., PE, PMP) a plus
- 7+ years of experience in applications engineering, solutions architecture, or technical sales in the power generation, microgrid, or distributed energy sectors.
- Specialized knowledge/Professional Certifications (preferred)
- Understanding of power conversion systems including inverters, converters, switchgear, and grid interconnection requirements.
- Hands-on experience with controls integration (e.g., Modbus, CAN, SCADA) is a plus.
- Exposure to projects involving microgrids, data center backup, EV charging infrastructure, or remote/off-grid generation.
- Knowledge of relevant safety protocols, installation best practices, and technical compliance standards.

Working Conditions This is a salaried, exempt-level position. This position typically works in an office environment; and given the nature of our business is also exposed to operations/warehouses/production environments. Physical/Other Requirements
