About the role: As a Cobol Software Engineer you will develop core versions of software applications for sale to external clients. Identifies client purchasing requirements and technical specifications through Product Management and/or client representatives. Interacts with engineering groups to assist in design changes to equipment and/or software. Trains and communicates with clients on systems application. About the team: Cobol Programmers work closely with Customers, Business Analysts, Scrum Master, Product Owner, and team members to understand business requirements and drive research analysis, and design, to deliver of quality technical solutions ensuring alignment with business and IT strategies and complying with FIS architectural standards. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
Cobol programmers analyze, design, program, debug, and modifies software enhancements and/or new products used in local, networked or Internet-related computer programs. (Code must be used in core version of applications available for sale commercially.) Interacts with product managers and/or users to define system requirements and/or necessary modifications. Participates in software design meetings and analyzes user needs to determine technical requirements. Write technical specifications based on conceptual design and stated business requirements. Writes code, completes programming, and performs testing and debugging of applications using current programming languages and technologies. Completes documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance. Oversees, leads and guides other developers. Performs peer reviews and consults with software test analysts. Trains and communicates with internal Client Training, Client Relationship and Sales teams on systems application. May be responsible for developing or executing project plans, and documenting work and results. May deliver informational and decision-seeking presentations to technical and business groups to internal and/or external audiences. Works with developers in US and non-US time zones to assist and learn specific client projects with the potential for the need to work client time zones as needed. Potential need for travel to client location internationally Other related duties assigned as needed.
WHAT YOU BRING:
* Experience using COBOL, CICS, DB2, IMS DB, IMS HALDB, JCL, VSAM, and TSO ISPF; 5+ years of experience in IBM mainframe technologies. * Experience on the Tools like INSYNC, XPEDITER, DUMP-M and CONTROL-M. * Knowledge of FIS products and services; in-depth knowledge of products and services in assigned line(s) of business. * Knowledge of financial services industry. * Knowledge of end-to-end systems development life cycles, e.g., waterfall, iterative and other modern approaches to software development. * Knowledge of standards relevant to the software industry , e.g., ISO, CMM, Six Sigma. * Knowledge of banking practices, regulations, and operations within assigned line(s) of business. * In-depth understanding of design patterns and their application. * Experience using Cobol, JCL, DB2 and IMS; 5+ years of experience in mainframe technologies * Experience on the Tools like INSYNC, XPEDITER, DUMP-M and CONTROL-M. * Fluency in developing and understanding sequence diagrams, class models, etc. * Proficiency in solutions design and requirements definition disciplines leveraging model driven design-based tools and techniques including conceptual solution component models, business process models, use cases, etc. * Outstanding verbal and written communication skills to technical and non-technical audiences of various levels in the organization, e.g., executive, management, individual contributors. Excellent analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, team and time management skills. Ability to persuade and influence others on the best approach to take. Knowledge of end-to-end systems development life cycles - e.g. Agile software development. Excellent customer service skills that build high levels of customer satisfaction for internal and external customers Excellent verbal and written communication skills to technical and non-technical audiences Ability to estimate work effort for project sub-plans or small projects and ensure the project is successfully completed. Positive outlook, strong work ethic, and responsive to internal and external clients and contacts. Adhere to processes defined in the Project Management Plan Understand and clarify the requirements and design Creates technical specifications on case-by-case basis Prepare unit test plan and data as per the requirements and design Perform unit testing and document the results Provide test support in relevant stages Implement and adhere to secure coding guidelines and conduct peer review of deliverables

FIS is committed to providing its employees with an exciting career opportunity and competitive compensation. The pay range for this full-time position is $105,070.00 - $176,520.00 and reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position based on the posted role, level, and location. Within the range, actual individual starting pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Any changes in work location will also impact actual individual starting pay. Please consult with your recruiter about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
