I. JOB OVERVIEW


Job Description Summary:
The George Washington University (GW) is strategically based in Washington, DC and serves the global community. GW's Graduate School of Education and Human Development ( GSEHD) develops global leaders through innovative teaching and learning, scholarly inquiry, and public and private partnerships.

In support of our vision and mission, we seek an Assistant Dean, Global Initiatives, to be the liaison among a variety of stakeholders within GW and external partners in international education sectors (i.e., ministries of education), alumni, prospective employers, and other organizations. The Assistant Dean will enhance the reputation of GSEHD by serving as a resource for students, faculty, and global partners. They will be expected to provide strategic, high-level program management, academic and student services support.

The Assistant Dean, Global Initiatives will advise on a variety of student issues related to the program(s), will serve as an escalation point for program questions from faculty and staff and partners, and will provide program management. This position may conduct conferences, workshops, lectures, and/or recruitment events. Core responsibilities typically include community outreach and relationship building, academic advising, managing program web presence and marketing efforts, creating program materials, developing and executing new programming, planning and executing events and student outreach, managing the program budget, preparing and analyzing reports, and similar duties. The Assistant Dean may be responsible for developing and implementing a strategic plan, review and continuous improvement of policies and procedures, and outreach to internal and external stakeholders in order to move the mission of the program forward.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Global Initiatives

  • Central liaison between GW and Azerbaijani government officials and program teams (GSEHD, The Ministry of Education, ASPU, ADA, Nakhchivan University, the State Program Implementation Group and the Oil Fund) in the continuance of the partnership between these entities.
  • Business Development: expand GSEHD's global footprint by researching and developing partnerships for GW in Korea (INHA University); England (Warwick University); Turkey (Ege University); Israel (Ono College).


Program Management

  • Develop and manage activities among program stakeholders in Washington, DC and Baku, and other global partners.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design and enhance their course content to align with educational objectives.
  • Ensure appropriate monitoring and management of program budgets, and prepare complex and comprehensive financial and narrative reports.
  • Develop targeted advertising to increase enrollments. Serve as spokesperson and represent the university at various events.

Student and Academic Support

  • Manage the student recruitment, admissions, and enrollment processes.
  • Oversee academic and extracurricular programs including developing and implementing student-focused activities.
  • Provide support for internships and mentor/advise students.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

This is a hybrid position with some required days in Washington, DC and some days remote. International travel is expected.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 7 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 5 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience with education program management is highly desired.
  • Specific experience with Azerbaijan and fluency in Azerbaijani is highly desired.
  • Experience with academic program leadership.
  • Strong interest and experience in student advising/mentoring.
  • Strong interest and experience in collaborating with other universities and/or developing partnerships internationally.

Hiring Range $120,157.92 - $174,187.86
