The Department of Health Services is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Environmental Health Specialist to join their Environmental Health and Safety Section. As a Senior Environmental Health Specialist, you will serve as the program expert, advising staff members on best practices and regulations and collaborating with the program supervisor and the Environmental Health Leadership Team to execute program changes and ensure compliance with new regulations. Additional responsibilities will include:
• Facilitating staff training and advising journey-level personnel in the field • Developing programs to increase efficiency • Creating procedures and practices to improve operational consistency and accuracy • Notifying the leadership team of regulatory changes, program requirements, and suggested improvements
The ideal candidate will be adaptable, flexible, empathetic, positive, and patient while also showing a high level of technical ability, program knowledge, and professionalism. Additionally, they will possess: • Technical knowledge and ability to interpret regulations and effectively apply them across programs • Proven ability to effectively lead and manage a team of specialists, maintaining consistency across programs • Effective writing and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to communicate findings and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders • Ability to effectively lead, train, and develop a team
Please Note: This position requires current possession of a valid certificate of registration as an Environmental Health Specialist as required by the State of California's Health and Safety Code.
