Overview

The Onco-Fertility Nursing Program Coordinator (NPC) works within the Fertility Preservation Program at CMH. This is a multidisciplinary team that consists of members from oncology, BMT, urology, and gynecology. The NPC is the lateral integrator for the team, acting as a unified point of contact while demonstrating patient/family care coordination. The NPC facilitates fertility preservation across a spectrum of multidisciplinary teams within Hematology/Oncology/BMT, other medical clinics, and lastly outside referrals. The NPC ensures all eligible patients, male/female from 0 days old to 23 years of age, receive timely and comprehensive fertility preservation support.

The NPC is extremely self-driven and organized throughout each task. The organization is demonstrated through communication, logistics, and timely decision-making in collaboration with patients/families, and primary care teams.

Responsibilities

    Meets the educational needs of patient/family, utilizing principles of teaching/learning.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for the education and consultation needs of the health care team.
  • Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement activities.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Organizational and prioritization skills
  • Ability to balance the needs of patients and family members in distress with those of staff and providers
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision in a complex, fast-paced, and challenging environment
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and ability to research when necessary
  • Knowledge of the processes involved in the diagnosis of the various types of cancer that affect people in their reproductive years
  • Knowledge of accepted treatment protocols for the various types of cancer that affect people in their reproductive years, with an emphasis on the most common/most detrimental to fertility
  • Willingness to acquire knowledge of evidence-based techniques to assist patients in complex decision-making


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • 3-5 years experience
    • Pediatric Nursing Experience
  • Master's Degree Preferred
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas required upon hire
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri required upon hire
  • RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO-MO or KS compact required within 60 days of Hire
  • Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire
  • Specialty Certification relevant to unit's patient population (determined by Nurse Manager/Director) Preferred

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $36.75/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.



Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible to work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children's Mercy locations and may not work from home.
