Primary Purpose of Department
The Center for Wellness Promotion operates from a public health model and utilizes prevention and health promotion strategies to empower students to make informed decisions about their personal health and well-being. Our team of multidisciplinary professionals addresses issues such as alcohol use, drug use, recovery from substance use disorders, sexual health, sexual and relationship violence, and a variety of other wellness topics that affect college students. Our vision is to empower the University community to develop healthier attitudes and behaviors in order to create a safer, more equitable campus culture.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Assistant Director's primary responsibility includes overseeing the implementation of interpersonal violence prevention and sexual health education programming including workshops, campus-wide outreach events, and awareness campaigns. This position leads the implementation of the Green Dot Strategy, a national, evidence-based bystander intervention strategy designed to mobilize students, staff and faculty to react, intervene, and engage in proactive behaviors to prevent interpersonal violence.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
The Assistant Director will provide supervision to one full-time staff member and lead the implementation of violence prevention and sexual health programming by overseeing content development, outreach activities, and workshop facilitation. This position will also lead the Green Dot program and support a team of staff/faculty instructors including trainer recruitment, engagement, and development. This position will report to the Associate Director for Prevention and Training and assist in broader-level strategic planning, assessment, and budget management.
Minimum Education/Experience
Master's or advanced degree in a related field required. Most relevant fields of study include (but are not limited to) public health, health promotion, higher education leadership, social work, gender and sexuality studies, or related fields required.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Supervision of professional or student staff; demonstrated ability to manage and develop staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as skill in presenting effectively to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Strong ability to collaborate effectively to address programmatic issues and needs, while making independent, professional decisions and considering the input of various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated skills in a variety of educational methods including presentations, workshops, trainings, and small group discussion/facilitation.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, manage time efficiently, and prioritize tasks.

  • Certification in the Green Dot College Strategy.
  • If not Green Dot certified at the time of hire, Green Dot certification is required at the earliest available opportunity.
