Position Summary

Under the direction of the Associate Director Transportation ensures execution of standard processes and policies for transportation courier services including blood product hospital deliveries and returns, donor center and mobile blood pick-ups, supply deliveries, distribution site transfers, Diagnostic Lab sample pick-ups, Pharmacy deliveries, Donor Testing Lab tube deliveries and additional ad hoc courier needs, including overnight and same day air deliveries.

Responsibilities

    Transportation Management Operations * Ensures execution of Versiti policies and procedures for internal blood product hospital deliveries and returns, donor center pick-ups, supply deliveries, distribution site transfers, Diagnostic Lab sample pick-ups, Pharmacy deliveries, Donor Testing Lab tube deliveries and additional ad hoc courier needs. * Daily execution of fleet upkeep and oversight of vehicles. * Fosters local outsource supplier relationships and agreements to ensure delivery expectations are achieved across Versiti for a 24/7 operation including all holidays. * Facilitates proactive relationships with hospital partners blood bank managers and attends business reviews with Hospital Relations. * Maintains scheduling and routing functions to balance insource / outsource and scheduled / on demand deliveries to optimize productivity for state(.) * Ensures work systems and processes are effective, efficient and maximize productivity. * Establishes processes and accountabilities to ensure quick responses to patients needs within Versiti. * Ensures record management, dispatch and tracking systems are in place. * Ensures accurate reporting of on time deliveries and quality related metrics. * Initiates process improvement when inefficiencies are identified by customer feedback, input, deviation management, audits, etc. * Ensures safety through implementation of driver training. * Reviews accident and incident reporting and suggestive preventative actions according to Versiti policy.
  • Customer Service * Promotes interdepartmental cooperation and respect through effective communication, proactive relationship building, and problem solving. * Ensures execution of Versiti customer service strategies designed to meet and/or exceed customer requirements. * Participates in Net Promoter Score evaluation and action plan implementation.
  • Human Resource Management * Accountable for human resource management to include hiring, scheduling, mentoring, performance review, discipline, payroll/PTO, and termination in collaboration with Human Resource Services and in compliance with administrative policy. * Supervises departmental training functions to assure incumbent and new staff are competent in all job-related tasks. * Sets direction for staff development including goal setting, and development of personal and departmental performance standards to meet business unit initiatives. * Conducts performance evaluations for direct reports; provides oversight of performance evaluations. * Ensures appropriate staffing levels.
  • Financial Management * Prepares and monitors state transportation expense budgets to ensure financial health of business unit and benchmarks are calculated and are not exceeded; ensures department activities are conducted within established budget. * Prioritizes and allocates resources.
  • General Duties * Act as organization's representative within area of expertise. * Serves as liaison between his/her department/function, other departments/functions of Versiti, and outside organizations; consistently promotes a positive employee and public relations image of department/function and Versiti. * Attends meetings and seminars; reads publications and belongs to organizations that enhance professional credibility. * Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field such as biological science, supply chain management, business or equivalent experience preferred

Experience

  • 1-3 years current supervisory or team lead experience to include operational, logistical, financial and leadership responsibilities required
  • Less than 1 year Continuous Improvement experience required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated leadership skills to include team building, problem solving, decision making, prioritization, and organizational agility
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to direct a workforce with varied educational backgrounds and knowledge bases as a coach and mentor
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and a desire to learn and apply American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) regulations
  • Skills and ability in logistics, distribution, and customer service
  • Demonstrated skills in scheduling and analytical modeling
  • Ability to influence, reason and resolve conflict without direct authority
  • Capable of monitoring and assessing quality
  • Demonstrated ability to use systems thinking skills to facilitate systematic improvement of processes
  • Demonstrated experience as an effective change agent
