Job Description:

Sun Life is seeking an experienced Sr. Linux System Engineer.

What will you do?

  • Analyze how new technology could benefit and fit in the existing setup, engineer roadmaps to integrate new technology into existing systems
  • Plan routine and complex changes system changes, including validation plans, and implement approved changes
  • Create/maintain support documents and update operations manuals, standard operating procedures, and life-cycle documentation
  • Work either independently or with a team - provide troubleshooting and support for complex issues - provide solutions to maintain the stability, availability, and reliability of server environments
  • Work within standards and guidelines for development and support of new solutions
  • Work with Enterprise Architecture team to ensure proper execution, business, and strategic alignment of solutions
  • Work with new technologies and transform legacy technology to leverage the cloud services
  • Configure, manage, maintain, and continuously improve server, application, and system performance, based on recommendations
  • Participation in the on-call rotation for production support and after-hours implementations as required

What do you need to succeed?

  • Strong analytical and technical skill set, able to communicate and organize complex implementation changes
  • Ability to perform under pressure in an enterprise production environment
  • Ability to multitask and manage deliverables for multiple projects in timely manner
  • Excellent documentation skills
  • Extensive experience in working with Red Hat and other Linux distributions
  • Experience utilizing and supporting compute and other services in Amazon Web Services
  • Software development and/or scripting experience using Python
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools and Azure DevOps
  • Experience building and maintaining Kubernetes / Docker container infrastructure
  • Strong verbal and written communication, problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to successfully work within a result driven team and organization

Requirements/Preferred Skills:

  • Minimum Current certification(s) - Linux Professional Institute LPIC-2 or Red Hat RHCE
  • Experience with cloud services - Amazon Web Services preferred
  • Proficient in administration of servers running Red Hat and other Linux based distributions
  • Experience in administration of OpenShift clusters, Kubernetes and/or Docker containers
  • Proficient with scripting languages - Python preferred
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as HashiCorp Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation
  • Experience creating/maintaining CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps, or alternatively AWS CodePipeline
  • Experience with configuration management tools - Ansible preferred

Successful completion of a Computer Science degree, Technical Diploma, or equivalent work experience, along with a minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in an infrastructure production environment

Salary Range: $98,400 - $147,600
