SUPERVISOR, TRANSPORTATION & LOGISTICS The Cape Transport team plays a vital role within the Materials Management organization, overseeing the daily receipt and distribution of materials essential to the refurbishment and launch of SpaceX rockets. We are seeking a highly motivated Transportation Supervisor to lead and support the day-to-day transportation operations at our Cape Canaveral facility. This role is responsible for fostering a strong safety culture, managing team performance, and ensuring timely and accurate movement of critical materials. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and creative leader with a passion for continuous improvement and a commitment to exceeding customer expectations. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Actively promote a strong safety culture through the enforcement of company safety policies.
- Cultivate a team culture that embraces change, encourages innovative thinking, and supports the evaluation and implementation of process improvement ideas.
- Oversee administrative functions, including timecard approvals, team scheduling, performance reviews, supply management, and direct report development through regular one-on-one mentoring and training.
- Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and site-specific transportation policies, including those related to oversized loads and hazardous materials.
- Monitor and support the achievement of operational metrics and performance goals for the Cape Transport team.
- Implement and enforce best practices for loading, unloading, and transporting materials in alignment with company procedures and industry standards.
- Manage and delegate Transportation Move Requests (JIRA CLAIMS) tasks effectively to ensure timely resolution and maintain high performance against due dates.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Shipping, Receiving, Inventory, Production Coordination, Quality Control, Planning, Purchasing, and other departments to resolve material handling and distribution challenges.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for transportation-related audits and ensure the team's readiness for inspections and compliance evaluations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment by driving continuous improvements in workspace layout and design.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support an efficient, safe, and productive work environment.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
- 3+ years of experience in logistics, transportation, distribution, supply chain, or materials management.
- 1+ years of leadership or supervisory experience in an operational environment.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at the time of application.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year university, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in materials management, supply chain, or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of transportation processes and procedures specific to Federal property and Cape Canaveral operations.
- APICS certification such as CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) or CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to lead and build effective teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
- Working knowledge of transportation regulations and compliance standards, including DOT, 49 CFR, and IATA.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including second shift and weekends, as required to support operational needs.
- Strong commitment to meeting deadlines, maintaining accountability, and communicating operational changes or challenges proactively to leadership.
- Experience with Lean or Six Sigma methodologies; Green or Black Belt certification is a strong plus.
- Previous experience in aerospace, aviation, or automotive manufacturing environments, with a solid understanding of the logistical demands and compliance requirements in high-performance industries.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with the role, including lifting up to 50 lbs., standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying.
- Willingness to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, as required to meet operational demands.
- Flexibility to support a dynamic work schedule, including varied shifts and on-call availability to support mission-critical activities.
- Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral.
