Job Title: Interim Director of Accounting Location: Troy, MI OR remote with travel Position Type: Contract (4-6 months, with strong potential to convert to permanent) Pay Rate: $80 - $110/hour depending on experience level
About the Role: We are partnering with a leading national professional services firm to identify an Interim Director of Accountingto oversee their accounting department.This high-impact role is ideal for a CPA with experience leading an accounting team in a publicly traded company environment and who understands the urgency of timely financial reporting.The position is expected to last 4-6months, with a strong possibility of transitioning into a permanent role with the company. The project will require monthly travel to the Detroit area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
- Oversee preparation of financial statements and SEC filings (10-Q, 10-K, etc.) in compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls and ensure SOX compliance across accounting processes
- Partner with FP&A, Legal, Tax, and other cross-functional teams to support strategic initiatives and accurate financial planning
- Manage and mentor a team of accounting professionals; provide coaching, performance feedback, and career development
- Collaborate with external auditors during financial and SOX audits and ensure successful audit outcomes
- Research and implement new accounting standards, providing technical accounting guidance as needed
- Drive process improvements and system enhancements to streamline accounting operations and increase efficiency
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles
- Experience in a publicly traded company or Big 4/public accounting firm highly preferred
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and SOX compliance
- Strong understanding of technical accounting areas such as revenue recognition, lease accounting, equity, and consolidations
- Proven experience managing month-end close, internal controls, and audit processes
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment
