Position Details:

The Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that strengthens brand identity, expands audience reach, and aligns marketing strategies with fundraising and revenue objectives. This role oversees brand reputation management, digital marketing, media relations, and content development, ensuring that messaging effectively reaches key stakeholders across multiple channels.

The CMO will lead demand generation, donor acquisition, and go-to-market strategies, expanding the organization's reach and impact on both national and global levels. Additionally, they will oversee data-driven marketing performance, budget management, and cross-departmental collaboration to optimize marketing effectiveness and drive sustainable growth. The CMO will be a key member of the executive leadership team, contributing to overall organizational strategy and decision-making.

Reporting to the President, this a full-time, exempt, hybrid position (minimum 4 days in officer per week) located in our Midtown, New York Headquarters.

You Will:

  • Marketing Strategy: Develop and implement marketing strategies that encompass digital marketing, social media, public relations, and traditional marketing channels. Ensure all initiatives align with our goals.
  • Brand Identity & Reputation Management: Oversee and maintain brand consistency across all communications and marketing materials. Develop brand guidelines to safeguard our image and reputation.
  • Internal Communications: Oversee and contribute to our internal communications efforts, ensuring clear, consistent, and engaging messaging that aligns employees and stakeholders with important initiatives and organizational goals.
  • Demand Generation & Donor Acquisition: Develop and execute strategies to attract interest from corporations, consumers, and donors. Implement targeted donor acquisition initiatives to engage and expand the donor base. Evolve and enhance the donor experience across branded content platforms and digital assets.
  • Go-to-Market Strategy: Ensure our business-to-business and business-to-consumer initiatives effectively reach and engage the right audiences, promoting awareness and partnerships that support growth.
  • Global Strategy Support: Collaborate with international teams to promote marketing strategies and campaigns on a global scale, ensuring consistency and effectiveness across different regions.
  • Digital Marketing & Online Presence: Lead cross-channel digital marketing efforts, including website management, search engine optimization (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM), email marketing, content marketing, mobile marketing, and online advertising campaigns. Stay updated on new digital trends and technologies.
  • Content Development & Engagement: Oversee the creation of compelling and impactful marketing campaigns, including blog posts, videos, infographics, and other multimedia materials. Ensure content aligns with messaging and resonates with target audiences. *
  • Media Relations & Communications: Build, strengthen, and use relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to achieve top media placements and drive increased coverage of CMI's work and mission. Oversee a public relations agency to maximize an impactful communications strategy across major media channels. Develop crisis communication strategies to safeguard organizational reputation and ensure preparedness for potential PR challenges.
  • Analytics & Performance Measurement: Define and track success metrics for all marketing initiatives, ensuring data-driven decision-making and continuous optimization. *
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with fundraising, finance, care, research, national, and global teams to ensure marketing initiatives support organizational goals. *
  • Budget & Financial Oversight: Manage marketing budgets with strong financial knowledge, ensuring cost-effective strategies that maximize return on investment.
  • Leadership & Team Development: Provide strategic leadership, mentorship, and direction to internal marketing team and external vendors. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

You Have:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. *
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in marketing, communications, or related fields, with experience driving brand growth, revenue, and audience engagement. Demonstrated ability to develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies using data and analytics to track performance. *
  • Experience with aligning marketing efforts with fundraising campaigns to support organizational goals.
  • Experience managing a large marketing department and outside vendors. * Experience enhancing organizational marketing and brand strategy as well as global media and communications programs.
  • Strong digital expertise spanning SEM, SEO, email marketing, social media marketing, content marketing, and mobile marketing.
  • Proficiency in marketing technology platforms (e.g., CRM systems, analytics platforms, email marketing tools, and digital advertising).
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully growing digital revenues.
  • Experience building and executing content marketing and influencer marketing campaigns
  • Proven track record in driving increased media results through major media outlets
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to demonstrate data interpretation

Pay Range

The salary range for the position is posted. Factors such as candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations affect the salary offered within this range. In addition, this salary may be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state and depending on the role), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
