Job Description
The Director of Energy Acquisition is responsible for the energy supply function for AltaGas' US Utilities business (the "Company"), including specifically for Washington Gas Light ("WGL") and for SEMCO Energy ("SEMCO") and the more than 1.5 million customers they serve. The Director is accountable for establishing the long-term energy strategy for the Company, driving and coordinating energy planning activities, leading the overall portfolio management function, and optimizing Utility assets to ensure the Company has adequate supply to securely and affordably serve firm customers, both today and in the future. The departmental core functions include demand forecasting, procurement of natural gas and other energy supply, and the delivery of energy supply through scheduling, reconciliation, and invoicing processing. The Director is responsible for overseeing the team's prudent and competitive practices as well as the strategy around those practices. The Director is accountable for the recovery of energy and related costs through regulatory mechanisms for WGL (in Virginia, Maryland and DC) and SEMCO (in Michigan). This person should also maintain a strong network outside the organization with key energy infrastructure firms, including with US interstate pipelines and storage providers and with wholesale energy suppliers to facilitate business opportunities.
