Position Summary:
The
Assistant Director, Student/Alumni Career Development supports students in
achieving career readiness through personalized advising, skill-building,
employment connections, and experiential learning, in collaboration with
academic, employer, and community partners. This position is dedicated to student success and career advisement.
Essential Functions:
-Provides comprehensive career services to undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni for an assigned cohort of students. Supports would include career counseling, resume and cover letter review, interview preparation, job search strategies, and grad/professional school preparation.
-Collaborates with student leaders, organizations, and academic colleagues to evaluate and address NJIT student needs and preferences in the areas of career readiness, internships, cooperative education, and entry-level employment.
-Guides students in developing and executing career plans throughout their time at NJIT.
-Connects students and alumni with career opportunities, internships, co-ops, and other experiential learning opportunities, while maintaining an understanding of the local job market. Collaborates with our Employer Relations team to promote targeted opportunities to assigned student cohorts.
-Prepares students for job interviews through coaching and mock interviews.
-Creates and delivers workshops, networking events, and career development programs on a variety of topics for diverse audiences.
-Serves as liaison to assigned colleges, working closely with faculty and academic advisors to co-create targeted career programming.
-Encourages participation in internships and co-ops for your assigned cohort of students, managing the approval of cooperative education experiences through Handshake.
-Assists with large-scale events, such as career fairs, networking nights, and orientation sessions.
-Other duties may include providing collaborative support for programs, resources, and services across the university.
-Any additional responsibilities as required by management. Prerequisite Qualifications:
-Master's degree (or significant progress toward completion) in counseling, higher education, human resources, or a related field.
-2-4 years of career advising experience, preferably with STEM students. Relevant industry experience in a STEM field will also be considered.
-Knowledge of current labor trends and job-search strategies.
-Strong interpersonal skills with experience in presenting and teaching.
-Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
-Strong organizational and event management skills.
-Technical proficiency, with a preference for experience using career services platforms such as Handshake.
-At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
