How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:

As a Passenger Sampling Clerk, you will collect data and analyze results compared to electronic data systems to ensure the accuracy of Metro Transits ride and revenue data. You will be responsible for the National Transit Database reporting process and gather Metro Transit data which is reported for calculations that allocate federal transit funds across the nation. You will need to be flexible in work hours, and have the ability to work some weekends and in all weather conditions, gathering data for federally mandated, special event and promotional ride reporting. Candidate's permanent residence must be in Minnesota or Wisconsin.

Pay rate upon hire: $23.78 hourly
After year one: $27.18 (based on ATU wages as of 8/1/24)
After year two: $30.57 (based on ATU wages as of 8/1/24)

After year three: $33.97 (based on ATU wages as of 8/1/24)

This recruitment may establish a six (6) month eligibility list for current and future vacancies.

What you would do in this job

  • Ride APC equipped rail cars and count boardings and alightings by station.
  • Download electronically reported data from the INIT APC system and compare this output to the manual counts.
  • Identify electronic devices which are malfunctioning or not performing within manufacturer tolerances and report them to the supervisor of revenue and ride.
  • Run the electronic random selection process which identifies which trips are to be randomly sampled.
  • Prepare worksheets for the randomly selected routes with all the stops and distances between stops.
  • Ride the selected trips recording boardings and alightings by stop. Load the gathered data into electronic systems.
  • Perform periodic ad hoc counts of rides for Metro Transits reporting needs or to test the accuracy of systems in manners other than the above listed.

What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

High School diploma, or GED, AND two (2) years account reconciliation or balancing experience.

What additional skills and experience would be helpful in this job (desired qualifications):
  • Experience creating basic Excel spreadsheets and using computer systems for work on a daily basis.
  • Experience working outside year round, in all weather conditions.
  • Experience downloading electronic data from computer software systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Experience working flexible hours.
  • Experience working and collaborating in diverse, multicultural and inclusive environments.

What knowledge, skills, and abilities you should have within the first six months on the job:
  • Basic math knowledge including percentages.
  • Cell phone app technology and use of spreadsheets to gather data.
  • Knowledge of the Twin Cities geographically and a knowledge of the bus route system is needed to efficiently plan schedules.
  • Basic computer skills to download data out of electronic systems.

  • Excel spreadsheets and the skills to understand, create and manipulate these spreadsheets.

  • Possess organization skills to effectively plan work load independently to meet critical deadlines.
  • Learn to operate and administer certain aspects of ride and fare collection information systems that are unique to Metro Transit.
  • Possess excellent problem solving skills with a high degree of persistence to independently resolve issues.

What your work environment would be: Work is performed in a standard office setting. Some positions may require travel between primary work site and other sites.
