As the Associate Director of Algorithm Development, you will be a part of a multidisciplinary new product development team. You will be leading a team of dedicated algorithm, AI/ML, and data analytic engineers to develop and improve cardiology and pulmonary measurement and interpretation methods to improve clinical patient outcomes. This position will understand and help define clinical needs related to the signal processing and analysis of cardiology and pulmonary devices; algorithm functionality and performance requirements; product architecture, constraints and trade-offs; design and interface requirements of new products being developed. You will support the overall design of the product and be responsible for documentation and validation of the software inputs/outputs to ensure a safe and effective product.

This role will also be responsible for establishing and maintaining professional relationships with clinical luminaries, professional and standards organizations related to algorithm development and advancement.

What you'll be doing

  • Manage a team of algorithm engineers, establishing and tracking department budgets
  • Design, code, and maintain interpretive and signal processing algorithms and test programs for ECG and other physiological parameters for use in embedded medical devices.
  • Work with marketing, clinical, and key opinion leaders to develop next generation algorithm features, and establish and execute feasibility efforts.
  • Work with outside key opinion leaders to help establish benchmark clinical interpretations.
  • Use advanced mathematical and statistical concepts and theories for algorithm development and performance evaluation.
  • Identify, develop and/or execute algorithm tests using physiological databases and artificial signals.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with clinical luminaries, professional organizations, and standards committees.
  • Function as the algorithm team's primary contact for software engineering's algorithm-device integration and verification efforts.
  • Identify, interpret, and communicate insights, trends, and patterns from analysis and experiments to key stakeholders/decision-makers at varying levels of the organization.
  • Identify meaningful insights from large databases.
  • Develop and maintain internal software tools to manage large clinical and simulated data sets.
  • Work with project teams to define and document design requirements.
  • Work with other departments to resolve issues found during development.
  • Provide scheduling information to project management.
  • Execute code reviews and unit testing.
  • Write documentation related to software development and verification.
  • Performs Service / Complaint Investigations.
  • Provide training and technical support for service and marketing departments.
  • Trains and mentors junior level engineers.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or related field; MS or Ph.D. preferred.
  • Strong knowledge in the application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
  • Advanced practical knowledge and experience in signal processing algorithms, particularly cardiology related.
  • Demonstrated leadership establishing and maintaining relationships with clinical luminaries, professional organizations, and standards committees.
  • Ability to foresee the future needs, risks/issues and acting proactively and innovatively to address/mitigate and communicate.
  • 7+ years of programming experience.
  • 10+ years relevant experience is preferred.
  • Computer programming (C, C++, C#, Matlab; Ada preferred).
  • Advanced Office application skills.
  • Fluent English (both written and oral).
  • Ability to work on a cross-departmental team.
  • Ability to learn new skills and concepts easily.
  • Must be a team-player, possess outstanding customer service skills, and be self-motivated.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to initiate and develop creative solutions.
  • Must demonstrate history of continuous learning in technology field.
  • Thorough understanding of product lifecycle management and demonstrated application of knowledge in related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and disciplined problem-solving skills. Provide solutions that reflect understanding business objectives and product implications.
  • Demonstrated facilitation and strong negotiation skills in driving closure on product/program-related decisions/issues.
  • Effective communication & presentation skills. Understands stakeholder needs and can tailor communications/presentations appropriately.
  • Excellent interpersonal/influencing skills required to drive the team.
  • Familiarity with ICH, ISO, FDA and other regulatory standards and GMP/QSR environment.

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $168,000 - $231,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, commission, and/or long-term incentive.
