Job Description Summary

This role calls for a seasoned Principal DevOps Engineer to lead our DevOps initiatives, focusing heavily on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Jenkins-based workflows. The position centers on designing, implementing, and optimizing cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines to deliver scalable, secure, and efficient software solutions. The ideal candidate will be a technical expert in AWS and Jenkins, adept at driving innovation and mentoring teams in a fast-paced environment, ensuring top-tier system performance and reliability.

Job Description

Major Accountabilities

  • Develop technology architectural solutions for a less complex business area or support architectural services or governance activities.
  • Support the elaboration of business solution architectures.
  • Utilize architecture patterns to suggest the most adequate utilization of technical platforms in support of the holistic solution architecture design.
  • Contribute to maintain the pattern catalogue in the respective domain
  • Design and implement AWS-based architectural solutions to support scalable and efficient cloud infrastructure for software delivery.
  • Develop and optimize Jenkins CI/CD pipelines to automate and streamline build, test, and deployment processes.
  • Leverage AWS services and architecture patterns to ensure the most effective use of cloud platforms in alignment with holistic DevOps strategies.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of a catalog of reusable DevOps patterns and best practices specific to AWS and Jenkins workflows.
  • Support governance activities by ensuring compliance with security, scalability, and performance standards in AWS environments.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to refine and elaborate technical solutions that align with business objectives and operational needs.
  • Completeness and functionality of technology landscape -Operational efficiency of technical domain.

Key performance indicators:

Work Experience

  • 5+ years of professional experience in DevOps, cloud engineering, or systems administration, with a strong focus on designing and managing technical infrastructure.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), including architecting and deploying solutions using services such as EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda, S3, and IAM.
  • Minimum of 4 years of expertise in developing and optimizing Jenkins-based CI/CD pipelines, including pipeline scripting and integration with cloud environments.
  • Proven track record of leading complex DevOps projects, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead role overseeing AWS and Jenkins workflows.
  • Experience mentoring or guiding technical teams in adopting cloud and CI/CD best practices.
  • Demonstrated history of automating infrastructure and deployment processes in a fast-paced, production environment.
  • Ability to work and lead (a cross-functional team) in a matrix.
  • Collaborating across boundaries environment.

Skills:

  • AWS Expertise: Proficient in designing, deploying, and managing solutions using AWS services (e.g., EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS, IAM, CloudFormation), with a strong understanding of cloud architecture and best practices.
  • Jenkins Mastery: Advanced skills in building, configuring, and optimizing Jenkins CI/CD pipelines, including Groovy scripting, plugin management, and integration with AWS tools.
  • Automation: Strong ability to automate infrastructure provisioning and deployment processes using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools like CloudFormation or Terraform, and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).
  • Containerization: Hands-on experience with Docker and container orchestration platforms like ECS or EKS within AWS environments.
  • Security: Knowledge of AWS security practices, including IAM policies, encryption (e.g., KMS), and secure pipeline design in Jenkins.
  • Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Proficiency with AWS monitoring tools (e.g., CloudWatch, CloudTrail) and the ability to debug and resolve complex system issues.
  • Leadership: Proven technical leadership skills, with the ability to mentor teams and drive adoption of DevOps practices.
  • Collaboration: Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with development, QA, and business teams.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to architect solutions and address scalability, performance, and reliability challenges in AWS and Jenkins ecosystems.

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $114,100 and $211,900 per year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
