DESCRIPTION

This position is considered a Safety-Sensitive position. Applicants who pass the interview process will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.

The Recreation Services Technician - Theatre Sound and Lights is responsible for providing technical support for theatre productions, community events, and cultural arts programs within the City of Murfreesboro. This role requires experience in both sound and lighting operation, preferably within a theatre setting. The ideal candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team while ensuring a professional and high-quality technical experience for all productions and events.


EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business.
  • Provide excellent customer service and interact professionally with performers, staff, and the public.
  • Provides accurate information regarding activities and services. Delivers specialty services, specific to the goals of assigned area, and assists and participates in the success of the program as a whole.
  • Renders aid as needed, including administering CPR and using an AED device.
  • Operates, utilizes, and maintains inventory of audio/visual equipment, program equipment, and supplies in the assigned facility.
  • Maintain and repair sound, lighting, and A/V equipment as needed.
  • Ensure safety and functionality of all theatre technical systems.
  • Plans and prepares special events.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule with some weekend, evening and holiday work required.
  • Operate and manage sound and lighting equipment for theatre productions, rehearsals, and community events.
  • Program, set up, and run theatrical lighting and sound systems for various performances.
  • Monitor and assist with event setup and teardown for productions and special events
  • Work with and instruct children in theatre programming, assisting with sound and lighting elements.
  • Provide technical support for large-scale City events such as Celebration Under the Stars, Juneteenth, and other cultural arts events.
  • Collaborate with production teams to design, implement, and troubleshoot technical aspects of performances.
  • Performs other work as assigned.

Physical Demands:

  • Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis.
Supplemental Information:
The candidate for this A2 position will assist in theatre sound operations. Responsibilities will include audio equipment set up, musical theatre technical operation, and rental event sound operation. Skills needed for this position include fundamental audio principal knowledge, audio signal flow knowledge, and basic equipment use and operation knowledge. The candidate for this position will be directly under the A1 house engineer and will be assisting in theatre events and rentals.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma of GED equivalent required.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
  • Must possess a driver's license valid in the State of Tennessee.
  • Must possess current CPR/AED certifications or the ability to obtain same within six (6) months from date of hire.
  • Failure to obtain the CPR/AED certifications within six (6) months will result in termination.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
  • Experience operating and programming both theatrical sound and lighting systems.
  • Background in theatre production, performing arts, or technical theatre.
  • Ability to work with children in an educational or program-based setting.
  • Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively with a production team.
  • Experience working on large-scale events and coordinating technical needs.
  • Sound engineering experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard lighting and sound software/equipment.
