MMSD is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Project Engineer in the Technical Services Division. Reporting to the Engineering Planning Manager, you will assist in compliance with the Wisconsin Pollution Discharge Elimination System (WPDES) permits by ensuring adherence to MMSD rules. You will also review municipal sanitary sewer design plans, stormwater management plans, and green infrastructure plans to ensure compliance with MMSD rules.
Essential Duties and Respondsiblities
- Perform timely sanitary sewer plan reviews to prevent any negative impact to MMSD facilities in compliance with WPDES permit, MMSD Chapters 2, 3, 4, 7, and 13 rules, and easement language.
- Perform timely review of stormwater management and green infrastructure plans in compliance with MMSD Chapter 13 rules.
- Review municipal and private development projects that impact MMSD facilities and make recommendations to protect MMSD facilities.
- Assist senior project managers with consultants to ensure conformance with MMSD policies, procedures, standards, and design criteria.
- Work with the quality assurance inspector to address municipal sewer construction issues that arise in the field.
- Review submitted engineering reports and models impacting MMSD facilities for assigned projects and municipal sewer plan submittals.
- Provide ongoing, effective communication with municipalities.
- Complete special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in civil/environmental engineering or a related engineering discipline degree.
- One year of job-related experience or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work with blueprints, record drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Knowledge and ability to apply various standards, codes, and rules.
- Ability to keep accurate records and notes.
- Knowledge of sanitary sewer design, stormwater design, green infrastructure design, and municipal engineering.
- Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, GIS software, stormwater modeling software, and scheduling software.
- Valid driver's license and a good driving record at time of application, during selection process, and throughout employment.

- This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 lbs. of force.

Enviormental Requirements:
- Work occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to wet/humid conditions (non-weather), working near mechanical parts, working in high/precarious places, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to heat (non-weather), and exposure to the risk of electrical shock.
- Work is occasionally in a loud noise location.
