About the role

We are looking for a Mining Engineerwith excellent design skills and planning experience to design and schedule the underground mine, optimize the operations, and assist with short- and medium-term designs and production planning.

This role is a great opportunity to develop and grow understanding of the underground mine operations, acquire project management skills and business improvement experience. Reporting to the Senior Engineer - Mining, you will:

  • Create, optimize and implement development designs to support the short- and medium-term planning horizons
  • Generate stope drilling and timing plans
  • Support the Operations and Infrastructure teams by providing detailed designs to support LOM mining
  • Identify improvement opportunities and drive them through implementation

What you'll bring

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Strong safety mentality and familiarity with safety systems
  • An undergraduate degree, preferably in mining engineering.
  • 3D design and drafting software experience (Deswik, Vulcan, etc.)
  • At least 2 years of experience, preferably in underground metal mining
  • Well-developed analytical skills and technical competencies
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Proven ability to operate independently and in small multi-discipline teams
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships within teams

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Experience in underground mining
  • Intermediate computer competency (Excel, Word, SAP, etc.)

Where you will be working

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903 and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
