Job Summary

Lightpath is seeking an OSP Engineer and GIS Analyst who will be responsible for supporting the construction of the Lightpath fiber network, from an engineering and splicing perspective, as well as performing advanced spatial analysis using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This role will support plant maintenance, repair, and support as it is turned over to plant operations, and provide insights that will help the company maximize its assets.

Responsibilities
  • Play a key role in conduit, cable, and fiber management.
  • Assist with overall fiber network design, focusing on cost efficiency.
  • Engage engineering firms for low-level and high-level design.
  • Manage infrastructure ordering and material management.
  • Oversee engineering contractors to ensure timely and quality work.
  • Coordinate with municipalities on drawing expectations.
  • Support LP Construction Managers with cable installation and splicing.
  • Confirm plant installation as per design upon project completion.
  • Ensure plant updates are accurately uploaded into the inventory system.
  • Provide OSP support for maintenance, repair, and relocation of plant.
  • Perform advanced spatial analysis to create reports and maps.
  • Manage complex GIS databases and standardized map views.
  • Improve network spatial data quality and support GIS tools.
  • Develop spatial models for key business decisions.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies regarding fiber network expansion.
  • Collaborate effectively with other teams and assist in business case development.
  • Conduct inventory system audits and provide engineering updates in meetings.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar field.
  • Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and team player.
  • Understanding of fiber network construction and basic designs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and interpreting fiber/utility maps.
  • Telecommunications/fiber network color-code competency.
  • Clean driving record and ability to pass a drug test.
  • Experience with enterprise-level Geospatial Systems and spatial analysis.
  • Knowledge of telecommunication network components and operating mechanisms.
  • Ability to develop ad-hoc analysis and work closely with other functions.
  • High energy, self-motivated, and strong work ethic.
  • Adaptability to changes in scope of position.
  • Expertise in ESRI Desktop and ArcWeb; proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Knowledge of Telecom network topology and Right of Way.
  • Familiarity with Inventory Systems like GE Smallworld, Q-GIS, or OSPInsight is a plus.

Additional Requirements:

  • Requires sitting, hearing, and talking; occasional standing and walking.
  • Infrequent bending, twisting, kneeling, walking on uneven surfaces, squeezing, and crouching.
  • Infrequent lifting and carrying of 1-40 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform sedentary work.
  • Close detail work requiring visual acuity.
