Your Role on the Team

Position Summary:

The Safety Training Coordinator is responsible for implementing trainings for UCI Health staff that will enable them to build the skills they need to perform their jobs in a safe, efficient, and competent manner. The Safety Training Coordinator's primary role will constitute conducting various safety trainings as required by regulatory requirements under the direction of Environmental Health & Safety and Emergency Management. Will be responsible for training staff, in consultation with the Workplace Violence Prevention Team, in crisis management and de-escalation courses. Plan, organize and hold needed certification and renewal training. Participate in the development of training/education-related policies and procedures. Participate as a member of the Safety team. Serve on various internal safety committees as requested. Additionally, will provide other safety and emergency preparedness trainings to include disaster preparedness, injury prevention, safe patient handling and fire safety.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Specialized training, certification and/or experience in diffusing assaultive behavior
  • Prior experience working in one or more of the following settings: healthcare, education, residential, in-home health, or clinic settings.
  • Prior experience training, teaching, or presenting to audiences.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills
  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific or engineering or Public Health field or three years of professional experience in a comprehensive environmental health and safety program; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to facilitate both large and small groups for training/education/meetings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar with Cal/OSHA guidelines/requirements.
  • Familiar understanding with The Joint Commission Standards in Healthcare
  • Experience working within the University of California System.
  • Certified Instructor in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention by The Crisis Prevention Institute. Or relatable crisis management, management of aggressive behavior or similar training certification.
