GYN Surgery Scheduler

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for a GYN Surgery Scheduler for our offices located in Norfolk.

• Schedules surgical procedures at area hospitals.
• Schedules pre-admission testing. Ensuring adequate preparation for surgeries by scheduling the necessary equipment, time a surgery takes, and any preoperative orders needed prior to procedure.
• Serves as a liaison between patient and medical support staff.
• Obtains authorization for hospital admission from patient's insurance carrier.
• Coordination of surgical schedule with the providers and first assist. Organizes information needed for appropriate billing to include operative, pathology, and CPT code sheets
• Complete FMLA and/or short-term disability paperwork for surgery patients
• Provide return to work or extension notes
• Maintain the doctor's calendar for meetings, both for the practice and hospital
• Facilitate the distribution on the on-call schedule; enter the schedule into all provider's calendars
• Answers all incoming calls; assesses callers' needs and directs to appropriate personnel. Obtains and communicates messages in an accurate and timely manner.
• May be responsible for scheduling post-operative follow up appointments with Physicians.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year of experience required, preferably in a medical office
• Knowledge of medical terminology and coding preferred.
• Ability to demonstrate up to date knowledge of the profession and industry
• Medical Assistant experience preferred.
• Microsoft Office proficiency preferred
• Must be willing to travel between sites as needed

Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for prolonged periods of time.
