Overview

Provide support in strategic direction at the corporate and business unit level regarding the development of corporate strategy based on NFCU's competitive environment and company performance. Serve as an internal consultant and partner to executives regarding the execution of the overall strategy roadmap and alignment of the department-level strategies. Develop market, industry, and competitive insights to identify potential opportunities or threats. Implement rigorous planning processes that highlight business unit strategies, profitability, and capital allocations with clearly communicated critical assumptions, risks and success factors. Support the tracking of the enterprise strategic capabilities to identify, analyze and make better strategic decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in determining and reviewing gaps in strategic goals, enterprise initiatives and sub-initiatives
  • Play the part of "friendly challenger" and offer candid and objective opinions and ideas regarding strategic choices and implementation approach to goal and initiative owners driven by external market insights and fact-based analysis
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership with the ability to help guide the organization to align on the strategic direction and execution plan
  • Prepare presentations, communications, and other ad-hoc materials
  • Provide support with regular strategy planning sessions with goal, enterprise, and sub-initiative owners to maintain alignment of strategic objectives, targets and initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to leverage synergies across initiatives and work to drive impact from these collaborations
  • Develop a system to monitor projects and implementation roadmaps which highlight major milestones and deliverables leveraging agile methods
  • Track performance metrics, and ensure appropriate improvements are initiated and managed
  • Maintain insight into market trends, discontinuities, and potential disruptions to find growth for the organization
  • Support organizational change and learning by embracing new, flexible, and agile approaches to improve business performance and efficiency
  • Contribute to a culture of collaboration by actively working across business lines, communicating knowledge and strategy initiatives to business units
  • Using statistical practices, analyze current and historical data to spot trends, make predictions, identify risks, and opportunities, enabling better decisions on planned/future events
  • Lead the examination of data from multiple sources and share insights with leadership and stakeholders, present them in such a manner that they are easily understood by project stakeholders
  • May manage a "pool" of strategy resources across the organization to solve issues impacting multiple strategic objectives or initiatives
  • Coach sub-initiative owners and team members in carrying out project implementation activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Advanced experience as a strategy practitioner well versed in theory and tools of strategy formulation as well as practical implementation of strategy within a complex organization
  • Operational track record of dealing with strategic business issues including operational strategy, technical strategy, economics, finance, and industry structure
  • Experience implementing strategic initiatives to support organizational objectives
  • Proven track record of spotting trends early and subsequently leading strategic change throughout the company
  • Knowledge of research methodologies, business strategies, market analysis and valuation methods
  • Experience in implementing organizational change management efforts including organizational impact assessments, stakeholder identification and alignment, communications planning and execution, and training needs assessment
  • Knowledge of data querying, reporting, forecasting, analysis, and operations research
  • Expert in MS Office Products including Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Advanced Project Management skills including Agile, Communication Strategy and Management, Delivery Excellence
  • Extensive experience in demonstrating thought-leadership, initiative taking, decision-making and creativity in solving business problems
  • Significant experience in driving change management and influencing organizational culture and values
  • Experience in identifying relevant analytical problems, determining appropriate diagnostic methods, and solving unique and complex issues/problems
  • Experience in leading, guiding, and mentoring others
  • Expert skill leading with diplomacy and tact while maintaining appropriate assertiveness and persistence
  • Expert skill influencing and building consensus with business partners
  • Expert skill in being adaptive/flexible; acquire, recognize & apply new information
  • Expert skill interpreting and synthesizing large amounts of information

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of, and extensive experience with, credit union or retail banking operations
  • Working knowledge of Navy Federal's functions, philosophy, operations, and organizational objectives
