Sentara Healthcare is currently hiring for a Patient Care Specialist for Sentara Rheumatology Specialists- Kempsville in Norfolk, VA@

Status: Full-Time,permanent position (40 hours)

Standard working hours: 7am-3:30pm, M-F; The clinic starts seeing patients at 7:20am); Need someone dependable and on-time every day.

Location: Will report daily at Sentara Endocrinology Kempsville: 850 Kempsville Rd Ste 100E, Norfolk, VA 23502.

As aPatient Care Specialistwith Sentara Healthcare, you will provide non-clinical support within a physician's office and ensure an excellent patient experience by performing a variety of complex administrative tasks to support patient care delivery. Primary duties include answering phones, scheduling appointments, and answering patient questions. Job requirements:

  • Three (3) years Clerical, Customer Service experience required.

  • One year experience with Health Insurance Plans, Medical Records Data, Medical Terminology, Registration, Scheduling, or Third Party Payers required.

  • Experience with Electronic Medical Record systems preferred.

  • HS - High School Grad or Equivalent

  • An Associate's level degree in lieu of the required experience will be considered

Job Summary

Provides non-clinical support within the clinic/practice environment and ensures an exceptional patient experience by performing a variety of complex administrative tasks to support patient care delivery. Schedules appointments or outpatient procedures under general supervision, to include required coordination of referrals, resources, and pre-authorizations as well as communication with the patient and documentation within the appropriate systems. Provides general administrative support for practice operations such as scheduling meetings, preparing correspondence, maintaining notes/minutes/files, responding to telephone and written inquiries from internal and external sources such as patients, providers, insurance companies, etc. Employs a high level of initiative and independent judgment to make decisions about appropriate prioritization and handling/routing of incoming requests and difficult problems.
