Performs API visual inspections and non-destructive examinations on tanks, vessels, and piping at oil and gas processing facilities, well sites, compressor stations, and other production facilities. Provides repair recommendations of damaged or failed equipment and oversees repair work.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Regularly perform visual inspections, NDE, internal tank and vessel inspections, welding QC inspections, coating inspections and UT corrosion scanning on various equipment
  • Issue clear, concise inspection reports and repair recommendations
  • Perform MAWP, corrosion rate, t-min, and half-life calculations on various equipment
  • Direct and oversee contract personnel (e.g. inspectors, welders, coating applicators)
  • Review incoming inspection data to ensure accuracy, completion, results, and potential work scope increases
  • Assist with annual inspection planning and budgeting
  • Assist with shutdown and turnaround planning
  • Willingness to travel to various L48 Hilcorp locations to carry out inspection work (estimated 25% travel time)
  • Willingness to work outside of normal business hours as needed during turnarounds, shutdowns, or special projects
  • Strong understanding of NDE methods, advantages and limitations
  • Strong understanding of corrosion related damage mechanisms
  • Strong background in interpretation of construction/piping drawings (e.g. Isometric, P&ID, CADD)
  • Working knowledge of API, ASME and/or NBIC codes
  • Understanding of federal, state and jurisdictional inspection and integrity related regulations
  • Ability to plan, cost estimate, and implement repair work including welding, cleaning, media blasting, and coating of tanks, vessels, and piping
  • Perform comprehensive inspection data reviews and gap analysis on future inspection needs
  • Develop and coordinate planned and unplanned inspection projects per request of Production/Maintenance/Project groups, and track same to completion
  • Working knowledge of inspection database programs (e.g. PCMS, U-Pipe, Meridium)
  • Represent Integrity Department as technical authority and subject matter expert as needed
  • Attend, participate and sometimes facilitate daily, weekly and ad-hoc inspection related meetings
  • Help develop and maintain inspection procedures and guidelines

  • Capable of handling multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to align personal and program goals with the combined overall asset and Company goals

Other Job Responsibilities:

  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years inspection experience in oil and gas or related industry
  • 2 years performing inspection and/or repair activities in PSM facilities (e.g. processing facilities, refineries) preferred
  • Current certification or has the ability to certify within 6 months as ASNT (or equivalent) LII UT, MT, and PT
  • Currently certified in one of the following: API 510, API 570, API 653
  • Ability to obtain additional API certifications as needed within 2 years of employment

Education Requirements:

  • Preferred: Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating sufficient knowledge, ability and skill to handle the duties and responsibilities of the position

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

Required:

  • Current or ability to certify within 6 months: LII UT, MT, PT
  • One of the following: API 510, API 570, or API 653

Preferred (one or more of the following):

  • AWS CWI
  • NBIC
  • NACE Basic Corrosion
  • NACE CIP I or II
