The Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics (AMS) at Colorado School of Mines (Mines) is seeking applicants for a full-time teaching faculty position to begin in August 2025. The position is non-tenure-track at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor or Teaching Associate Professor.

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in data science, statistics, numerical methods, and/or applied mathematics. Prior experience with innovative large-lecture (>100 student) course delivery in Calculus or Differential Equations and the design and implementation of imaginative online course materials are also preferred. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach undergraduate courses in these areas and throughout the undergraduate curriculum. There may also be opportunities to teach courses at the Master's level. Further, the successful candidate will be expected to coordinate multi-section courses and collaborate effectively in curriculum development, innovative pedagogy, and other departmental service.

  • Develop and deliver course materials to undergraduate (and graduate) students in traditional, hybrid, and online platforms demonstrating teaching excellence and innovative pedagogical skills.
  • Contribute both institutionally and professionally through active service.
  • Collaborate across campus representing the AMS department.
  • Cultivate and promote an inclusive and diverse Mines community through recruiting, mentorship, and service.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ph.D. in a related discipline from an accredited program by the time of appointment.
  • Established record of successful teaching and service.
  • Course development experience.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and curriculum development at the undergraduate (and graduate) level.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Successful record of and commitment to excellence in teaching and curriculum development.
  • Experience teaching courses in a collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience and/or commitment to diversity, equity, access, and inclusion efforts.


Department Description

The Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics (AMS) at Mines has been notably successful in creating programs that draw on the strength and richness of both the mathematical and statistical sciences. Our teaching and research efforts are focused at the interface of Computational and Applied Mathematics, Statistics, and Data Science allowing us to provide structure, rigor, and quantitative insights for the collaborative solution of data-driven problems that are prominent throughout the 21st century world. AMS currently has a mix of 25 tenured/tenure track faculty and teaching faculty spanning applied and computational mathematics and statistics. We currently educate roughly 150 undergraduate majors and about 50 graduate students. The Department offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computational & Applied Mathematics and Statistics, and supports growing interdisciplinary programs in Data Science, Quantitative Bioscience & Engineering, and Operations Research with Engineering.
