Central Washington University is recruiting a Recreation Operations Senior Coordinator to join our University Recreation team in Ellensburg, Washington. The Role:

The Recreation Operations Senior Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that all Recreation facilities are maintained at a high level and operate with safety as a priority. Serve as the primary resource for facility supervision of the Recreation Center, Recreation Sports Complex, Lister Tennis Courts, Alder Field Complex, and Challenge Course. Supervision of evening/weekend student staff to effectively monitor Recreation facility operations including student operations leads, facility attendants, and student custodians. Specific program responsibilities include program and staff management, development and oversight of operating budgets, development, monitoring and enforcement of program policies and procedures, and administration of revenue collection. Job Duties

Facility Operations
- Responsible for the overall daily management and supervision of all University Recreation facilities, to include the Recreation Center, Recreation Sports Complex, Lister Tennis Courts, Alder Field Complex, and the Challenge Course to ensure the success of the program, with safety and risk mitigation as a top priority.
- Specific program responsibilities include program and staff management, development and oversight of operating budgets, development, monitoring and enforcement of program policies and procedures, and administration of revenue collection.
- Initiate facility maintenance work orders; monitor and tracks work and billing of all work orders.
- Ensure that business functions employ best management practices and are consistent with university standards.
- Provide leadership in the development, training, updates and evaluation for the department Emergency Action Plan (EAP) as it relates to facility operations.
- Primary contact for reservations and rental of recreation spaces and offerings.
- Make effective programming decisions based on an informed fiscal understanding.
- Maintain, evaluate, and oversee furnishings, fixtures, and equipment within the Recreation Center.
- Enhance schedules and evaluative tools to ensure timely replacement and maintenance of strength and cardio equipment.
- Formulate and recommend departmental policies and procedures related to departmental facilities.
- Ensure routine maintenance checks are done throughout the facility.
- Oversee recreation center upkeep and smooth operations. Coordinate recreation center projects and repairs annually.
- Organize facility tours for members, alumni, and internal/external groups and organizations.
- Coordinate the internal activities/events within Recreation facilities to include event set up/tear down, adherence to policies and procedures, staff supervision and facility safety and cleanliness. This includes cooperative on-site management of areas of use in Recreation facilities.
- Hire, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate, fitness floor staff, outdoor supervision, custodial and event staffs to provide excellent customer service.
- Develop and implement in-service training for employees and collaboratively maintain employee manuals. Serve as the lead contact with professional team to ensure that information on all departmental activities, events, outside reservations, and university related matters is disseminated accurately to members and guests.
- Provide consistent interpretation and enforcement of departmental policies and procedures.

Supervisor Duties
- Actively engages in recruitment and hiring approximately 40 student employees for operations leads, floor attendants, and student custodians.
- Clearly defines performance expectations, ensure accountability, and provides ongoing informal feedback, coaching, and mentoring. Conducts formal performance evaluations.
- Ensures employees have necessary resources.
- Oversees and directs the work of staff; serves as mentor, coach and leader, and resolves complaints or issues.
- Promotes professional development opportunities
- Develops and fosters supportive working relationships, motivation and engagement.
- Communicates information to staff on an ongoing basis to influence staff engagement and to be a part of a larger community.
- Takes corrective action in a timely manner.
- Recognizes and rewards employees for good performance.
- Schedules employee work hours/shifts; monitor hours worked; approve payable time and absence requests.
- Adjusts leadership style as needed to achieve results.

Involvement and Communication
- Provide feedback regarding departmental programs, equipment, and operations by conducting daily observations/engaging in programs and using equipment/facilities.
- Reports & resolves safety concerns with functional area supervisors as needed.
- Is active professionally through research, publications, presentations or involvement in professional associations.
- Represent University Recreation for various University/community functions and/or committee work.
- Contribute positively to the work environment by participating in honest dialog that is indicative of the departments culture of teamwork.
- Willingly shares all information with department teammates in an effort to provide high quality outcomes that contribute to student success.
- Provide staff coverage during evenings, weekends, and special events as needed.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Administration, Sports Management, Physical Education, Student Personnel Administration, or related field.
  • Experience scheduling staff, maintaining equipment inventory, and/or facility supervision.
  • Experience in student development, leadership training,etc.
  • Experience leading recruiting, hiring, and training staff.
  • Risk management knowledge and experience as it relates to sports, events, and facilities.
  • CPR & First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Demonstrated ability and/or experience working with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds and experiences.
  • OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Recreation Administration, Sports Management, Physical Education, Student Services Administration, or related field.
  • Budget management experience, including forecasting/preparation.
  • Experience in the development of short and long-range plans for financial and programmatic improvements.
  • Strong entrepreneurial skills and demonstrated ability to maximize revenue through appropriate design, development,
  • staffing, and marketing.
  • Experience implementing risk management policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in the proper maintenance and repair of strength and cardio equipment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for students through various activities.
  • A record of promoting inclusivity in the work environment.
  • Demonstrated participation in programs designed to promote inclusion.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Salary: This position has a minimum annual salary of $49,833 and maximum annual salary of $69,766. The Hiring Department's expected hiring range is $49,833 - $59,800 annually. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the hiring range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Schedule/Appointment: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch)

Working Conditions: Involves combination of office/computer work settings, as well as physical presence in and around campus recreational facilities. It is essential to be able to meet the physical demands of remaining at a desk/computer workstation for prolonged periods of time, using repetitive arm, hand and finger movements. Some stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying or moving of objects and other movements may be required. Evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be expected based on changing needs, requirements, deadlines, and budgetary constraints. This position may be required to spend time outdoors and lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
