Knowledge Management Senior Specialist

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

The Knowledge Management (KM) Senior Specialist provides technical and operational knowledge management services to the MSH Communications Department's corporate knowledge management functions.

As a member of the Communications Department, the KM Specialist supports MSH's internal, corporate knowledge management functions, including online platforms for collaboration and exchange, knowledge exchange activities, and communities of practice. They also participate in Communications Department strategy formulation and measurement related to knowledge management.

Main Duties and Responsibilities Develop and Maintain MSH intranet-60%
  • Support collaboration with staff who manage intranet content across all MSH departments. Manage all communications, training, and guidance resources. Provide analysis and coordination for the standard process of site content and performance reviews.
  • Support the MSH intranet on a day-to-day basis: implement updates to organizational policies and guidance for content management, maintain global functionalities including navigation, metadata, library structures, and search schema; implement complex functionalities including workflows, PnP webparts, and lists.
  • Collaborate with departments to support scoping, designing, and publishing new pages, sites, and functionalities. Conduct quality reviews and provide feedback.
  • Contribute to implementing the pipeline of developments to continuously improve the MSH intranet, including leading individual developments.
Support MSH communities of practice- 25%
  • Support development of organization-wide governance and customizable tools for creating and managing MSH Communities of Practice on various existing platforms.
  • Lead individual MSH staff groups interested in starting communities of practice in a process of scoping, planning, and launching their group.
  • Consult with managers of established communities to provide periodic guidance, good practices, and channels through which community managers can learn from each other.
Contribute to Organizational Requirements -15%
  • Contribute to implementing, socializing, and measuring progress against relevant organizational strategies including the MSH Strategy FY23-30 and the Comms KM Strategy.
  • Provide backup for related Communications functions on an ad hoc basis: updating the external website, facilitating Global Knowledge Exchange webinars, and updating announcements and events on the MSH intranet
  • Participate in Communications department meetings and initiatives as required
  • Participate in MSH required processes, courses, and initiatives (required learning, annual performance reviews, etc.).

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree in international development, public health, communications, or relevant field
REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
  • 4 years relevant experience with bachelor's degree
  • 2 years relevant experience with master's degree
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Experience in organizational learning, knowledge management, or communications, preferably in global organizations with presence in multiple countries and hybrid on-site and remote arrangements
  • Strong knowledge and experience with Microsoft SharePoint Communication sites and other applications commonly used alongside it in the Microsoft suite.
  • Strong experience configuring online resources for user friendliness; knowledge of good practices in user-centered design and user experience.
  • Experience creating and moderating online forums, with demonstrated knowledge of good practices in online engagement and content management. Microsoft Teams and Viva Engage preferred, but similar formats welcomed with willingness to learn new software.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Experience with virtual event planning and management preferred.
  • Ability to converse in one of MSH primary working languages in addition to English (French, Spanish, Portuguese) preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Travel: Occasional domestic and international travel may be required, less than 5% of the time.
  • Physical requirements: Keyboard use, pulling drawers, lifting papers <10 lbs.
