Sentara Cytogenetics Laboratory in Virginia Beach, VA is hiring an experienced Scientific Director to work full time in Cytogenetics.

Job Responsibilities:

- Provides oversight to scientific operations of Cytogenetics laboratory.

- Performs interpretive review of patient results, including generation of draft final reports.

- Collaborates with pathology and physician teams to guide patient case management.

- Provide consultation to clients of the Cytogenetics Laboratory

Job Requirements:

- Ph.D. in biological, chemical, or related scientific field.

- ABMGG board certified

- Minimum of 2 years' experience working within a clinical based Cytogenetics laboratory, including review, interpretation, and generation of patient reports.

Job Summary

The Scientific Director - Specialty Labs is an experienced, board-certified scientist responsible for overseeing the clinical operations, development, growth, and optimization of specialized diagnostic laboratory tests across various niche areas, such as Cytogenetics, Molecular Genetics, and other advanced diagnostics. This role involves managing all aspects of laboratory operations, including test validation, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, preliminary interpretation, and reporting for clinical specimen testing and research/development projects. The Director provides expert guidance on specialized techniques and applications, supporting both physicians and laboratory staff, while ensuring adherence to regulatory standards such as CLIA and CAP.

Additionally, the Director offers scientific expertise in the clinical presentation of complex disease states, including oncology, infectious diseases, and rare or esoteric conditions, utilizing advanced, validated laboratory tests. This position is also responsible for the design, validation, and quality control of cutting-edge assays, tailored to meet the unique needs of the medical community. The Director maintains strong relationships with regulatory authorities, offers leadership to laboratory personnel, evaluates staff performance, manages disciplinary actions when necessary, and ensures appropriate team coverage through effective scheduling and resource management.
