Job Description and Duties

Under direction of the Correctional Plant Manager II, the Associate Hazardous Material Specialist is responsible for hazardous material spills/chemical related complaints, project management of hazardous waste site remediation, program plan development/Implementation, resource recovery and product evaluation, training instruction, Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Programs and public hearing presentations. Maintains accountability of inmates, supervises inmates to be utilized for hazardous materials duties. Respond to emergency situations and provide a level of service to the public such that the safety of public and property is not jeopardized.

California State Prison-Sacramento is a high security male institution located in Folsom, CA. Employees may regularly be required to be in close vicinity of inmates and may visit various areas within the secured housing units.

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

Individuals who are currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, eligible for reinstatement, have list or LEAP eligibility, are in the process of obtaining list eligibility, or have SROA and/or Surplus eligibility (please attach your letter, if available). SROA and Surplus candidates are given priority; therefore, individuals with other eligibility may be considered in the event no SROA or Surplus candidates apply. Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).
