Product Engineer

The Product Engineer is responsible for Kearfott products all throughout the life cycle; from proposal concept all the way to End Of Life. This includes prototype development and other New Product Introduction (NPI) activities culminating in the transition of new products into production, as well as incorporating product improvements/corrections to designs in current production.

Essential Functions

Product Life Cycle Engineering- New Product Introduction

  • Participate as a member of a cross-functional team focused on development of customer funded projects as well as IR&D projects
  • Support cost proposal activity including selection of sources for purchased material
  • Transition of Product from concept in proposal to prototype- focus will be on assuring Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM, DFA) and Design to Cost (DTC). Incumbent will be responsible for monitoring and assuring prototype builds meet design/manufacturing/cost intent. This will also include development testing and performing trade studies.
  • Transition from prototype to Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP)- Incumbent will be heavily involved in preparing the product for production. This will include developing ATPs, working with Test Equipment to aid test stand design, and assisting with Qualification testing.

Product Life Cycle Engineering- Current production

  • Support production lean manufacturing and product improvement initiatives
  • Support design issues in manufacturing. This will include:
    • Investigating/recommending/initiating design changes (due to poor FPY, process changes, material changes, obsolescence, etc.). This includes evaluating customer requested changes
    • Dispositioning non-conformances
    • Performing failure investigations (when required)

Education & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years required, 3-5 years of experience preferred
  • B.S.in Engineering or significant equivalent experience
  • New product development experience desired
  • Experience as a member of a cross-functional project team focused on development of customer funded projects as well as IR&D projects required
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US, visa sponsorship not available.
