JOB SUMMARY

Oversees and directs the full scope of tissue and eye banking operations at UT Southwestern. The Director is responsible for the administration and growth of the Transplant Services Center, as well as relationships with partner organizations and community outreach.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required
  • Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Experience

  • 10+ years progressively responsible experience in a related clinical or laboratory environment. and

    3 years in a supervisory capacity.
Preferred
  • Education

  • Master's Degree in business, healthcare administration, or a related field.
  • Experience

  • 8 years progressively responsible experience in eye/tissue banking strongly preferred. and

    5 years in a managerial or supervisory capacity in an eye/tissue bank.
  • Licenses and Certifications

  • (CTBS) CERT TISSUE BANKING SPECIALIST

    (CEBT) CERT AS EYE BANK TECHNICIAN

JOB DUTIES
  • Sets strategic and operational goals for the Transplant Center. Positions the Transplant Center to grow, develop, and respond to the changing needs of the community.
  • Implements policies and procedures to maintain compliance with UT System policies, state regulations, FDA regulations, and accrediting body standards.
  • Develops and maintains strategic relationships with key partners, including but not limited to national accrediting organizations, organ procurement organizations, eye and tissue banks, tissue processors, medical examiners, and funeral homes to foster positive relationships which enhance the stability and viability of the Center in order to maintain superior community service.
  • Develops and maintains effective community/hospital outreach, eye/tissue recovery, processing, distribution, and quality programs that allow for maximization of donation and provision of safe and effective tissue allografts to the community and surrounding communities.
  • Gives direction to supervisors/managers as appropriate to accomplish department goals.
  • Works with other department directors and clinical staff to achieve University objectives and goals.
  • Develops and maintains departmental budget in compliance with University policies.
  • Responsible for design, execution and effectiveness of system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, and financial information is reliable.
  • Recruits, selects, and trains appropriately qualified managers, supervisors, and staff to perform the day to day operations of the department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
