Chief Investment Officer
The CIO will be a key member of the WM Senior Leadership Team and will provide enterprise wide leadership of Investment Strategy, Portfolio Construction and enhancement of the Comerica Investment Management brand. The CIO will be a prolific communicator of the Comerica Investment strategy and have the capability both internally and externally to differientiate Comerica as the partner of choice for Private Wealth, Comerica Financial Advisor and Trust & Fiduciary clients. The CIO will collaborate closely with the Comerica Chief Economist as an enterprise wide resource and will chair the Investment Policy Committee, leading the development of Comerica's strategic asset allocation and its implementation across all Wealth Management lines of businesses.
Position Responsibilities
- Broad understanding and appreciation of Comerica, including the markets and businesses in which it competes, its core beliefs and traditions and its deeply embedded culture.
- Chair the Investment Policy Committee to set the firm's asset allocation as it relates to investment goals and strategy.
- This role will be responsible for planning and executing the agenda for the Wealth Mgt IPC, which is made up of 8 senior leaders who set the asset allocation polices for the Wealth division.
- Duties include --
- Monitoring and overseeing the optimal long-term asset allocation targets for Comerica's clients' investment portfolios.
- Provide a public communication of the asset allocation decisions made by the committee, ensure the risks accepted align with the corporate risk appetite statement, etc.
- Identify, evaluate, and advocate for overall investment strategies and specific opportunities.
- Monitor markets and trends and anticipate risks and opportunities.
- The role determines the investment offerings and asset allocations for approximately Assets Under Management and Non-Interest Income.
- Provide weekly, monthly, and quarterly updates to advisors and broader management as well as updates required by significant events in the market and broader economy.
- Guide the organization through shifts in investment priorities. This role will serve as the subject matter expert and provide advice and strategic direction to the frontline Investment Strategist within the Personal Wealth region teams.
- Be a partner to the other Comerica business leaders. Collaborate with them and their business groups to capitalize on business opportunities that are good for the organization. Leverage these internal relationships to help grow the investment business and, in turn, help them grow theirs.
- Work closely with internal and external partners throughout the bank to provide a seamless and consistent message across Wealth Management.
- The role will be expected to be an active and visible partner with our Business Bank partners to instill confidence in Wealth Mgts Investment platform and services.
- Work closely with the Chief Economist to define roles and ensure alignment of messages. Capitalize off each other's messages.
- Conduct joint presentations.
- Create the clear messaging and branding of the investment strategy and disseminate it to the internal organization by which the organization will base its communications with clients and external parties.
- Create traditional and digital collateral and thought leadership which clearly explain Comerica's investment philosophy and increases the marketability of its approach.
Position Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited university required
- 10 or more years of financial services experience as a senior level executive in an investment organization with client facing responsibilities
- 10 or more years of experience directing and growing the money management business while adhering to regulatory and compliance guidelines
- 10 or more years both personal and institutional investment management
- 10 or more years leading a team of professionals
- Experience in Investment brand building through national media outlets

Work Best Category: Category B - 3-4 days in office on designated days/1-2 days remote
Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday
Salary: To Be Determined Based on Individual Experience
