Responsibilities:

The Y12 National Security Complex, simply known as Y12, has three primary national security missions that protect our country and our allies around the world. Maintaining the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile, reducing global threats, and fueling the U.S. Navy's nuclear propulsion program are the key activities at this historic site.

The Structural/Civil Engineer will provide the corporate Mission Engineering department with full time structural design engineering support for facility and production area activities in Cat 2, 3/non-nuclear and balance of plant facilities, and backbone infrastructure utilities. The responsibilities for the design engineers are:

  • Provide design output documentation to support minor facility modifications.
  • Design output drawings, engineering instructions, data sheets, equipment specifications, equivalency evaluations, calculations, etc.
  • Works with other engineering disciplines and other plant organizations to produce timely design output.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline accredited by Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience.
  • Have a familiarity with and experience in developing designs in accordance with American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1), and a variety of Continued Service Agreement (CSA) related issues relative to non-reactor nuclear facilities, natural phenomena events, structural rehabilitation, and building evaluations.
  • Must be familiar with consensus design codes.
  • Requires an understanding of Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, Conduct of Maintenance for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment.
  • Requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with various clients, production and support organizations, management, and hourly wage employees.
  • Must be willing to work in a production environment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must be eligible for a security clearance and maintain eligibility throughout period of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) or U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulated environment is desirable.
  • An active DOE Q clearance is preferred, however all applicants regardless of security clearance status will be considered.

Location/Work Arrangement:

  • This position is full-time (40-hour work week).
  • Onsite position at the Y12 facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
